Description
This Blu-ray disc captures the band’s performance at the German jazz festival on July 5, 2003, with audio and video, newly mastered in 2025. The audio is a remastered version of the soundboard source broadcast on TV, with rehearsal scenes and Metheny’s MC cut out, for a total of 78 minutes on one disc. The Blu-ray video, also from the TV broadcast, features master-quality, pro-shot footage, spanning 84 minutes. The performance itself is identical to the CD, and the Blu-ray’s large capacity allows for a faithful HD reproduction of the original material. Last month, the band also performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, where their orchestral performances were much talked about. While touring the festival with Toterio, they also appeared with Michael Brecker as a special quartet. While Brecker’s tenor is featured, “What Do You Want,” “.Soul Cowboy,” “James,” and the final “Question and Answer” are played in trio style, and Metheny’s fantastic solos are also available to enjoy. This is a must-listen/see for fans of both.
