Description
Wayne Shorter, who served as musical director for Miles Davis’ band and led the jazz/fusion scene in the ’70s and ’80s with his two-man band with Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, recorded his quartet show at New York’s Blue Note Jazz Club on November 12, 1996. This nearly complete recording, spanning two shows per day, totals two hours and eight minutes, was taken from a recently released audience master recording by Taper. The show kicks off with Shorter on sax, followed by a stage announcer introducing the band. Even in the relaxed atmosphere, the band ensemble is robust, particularly with virtuoso Jim Baird on synths and Weather-era ally Alphonso Johnson on bass. This is a must-listen for fans of the era, as it showcases Shorter’s exceptional approach to electric music.
