Description

Keith, a true genius with rare talent, weaves supremely creative music with his unchanging piano trio, along with his best possible partners, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette. Despite the three performances being held in different eras and locations, the consistent aesthetic creates the feeling of listening to a single concert, a one-of-a-kind experience! Truly a work of art! The trio of Keith, DeJohnette, and Peacock first met on the 1977 masterpiece “Tales of Another” under the name of Gary Peacock. In 1983, Manfred Eicher brought them together again, releasing three albums in a row: “Standards Vol. 1,” “Standards Vol. 2,” and “Changes.” Given that the three were leading improvisers in the jazz world, it was surprising to hear them perform traditional, orthodox standards. However, the result was a breath of fresh air, breathed into familiar standards with the unique combination of exceptional technique and innovative approach that no one else had achieved before, transforming them into completely new pieces, almost as if they were originals, to rave reviews worldwide. Since then, they have continued to perform at the forefront of jazz piano trio music for over 40 years, rewriting the history of jazz piano trios. This two-disc set, recorded at Piazza della Loggia in Brescia, Italy on July 13, 2007, is the middle of a six-date European tour that kicked off in Paris, France on July 7th. This release features a live performance at Piazza della Loggia in Brescia, Italy, recorded in superb quality with meticulous mastering by the label. This is the first release of a title with near-top quality sound from the Keith Trio’s archive, a collection that is rarely available in high-quality sound. The program includes 11 tracks, including rare compositions such as “You Go to My Head,” “When Lights Are Low,” “Yesterdays,” “One for Majid,” “One Somewhere,” “Tonight,” “Only the Lonely,” “Bye-Bye Blackbird,” “Last Night When We Were Young,” “When I Fall in Love,” and “God Press the Child.” Their fresh interpretations of famous jazz standards, crafted to sound like original compositions, are truly a new kind of trio jazz. While they also perform original trio compositions, the boundaries between them are blurred. This performance, which expresses sensitivity, taste, and mutual trust beyond technique alone, requires perfection of every element! A blissful performance imbued with the trio’s sincere aesthetic for music, is truly one of the most joyous experiences you’ll ever hear! This exceptionally high-quality audio captures every detail of the trio’s performance. This is a must-listen performance for fans of Keith and Standards, as well as piano trio and jazz fans!
