Description

This full-length recording of the July 4th performance in Los Angeles from the 1979 US tour, which saw the album “Minute by Minute” reach No. 1 in the US and reach a new peak, is available on a recently re-aired FM stereo soundboard. While previously available on radio, this recording from a new master ensures authentic, official quality. The band also performed in Japan in January of the same year, but following a lineup change, including the departure of Jeff Baxter and others, the lineup was slightly different from that performance. The set is roughly half Tom Johnston era and half Michael McDonald era, the focus of “Minute by Minute.” The day also saw a diverse lineup, with co-writer Kenny Loggins appearing on “What a Fool Believes,” Loggins joining violinist Novi Novog on “Black Water,” and Novog and Sal Valentino joining on the closing track, “Listen to the Music.” This is a must-listen collector’s edition for fans of the past, as it is a live performance from a period when the sound change following the addition of Michael McDonald was most noticeable.
