Prince/Escape Unreleased LP 1988

The title suggests that Prince was planning a single release of “Escape.” “Escape” was written at Paisley Park in May 1988 and is the B-side of “Glam Slam,” the second single from the album “Lovesexy.” This release features “Glam Slam” as the B-side, featuring edits and remixes, sandwiched between tracks from 1988. At 79 minutes in total, this album is hardly the length of an EP; it’s more like an unreleased 2-LP album from Prince titled “Escape,” produced in 1988. The sound quality, consistent range, and remastering create a cohesive, enjoyable experience. While the album includes previously leaked tracks, the 1988 version of “The Max” makes its first appearance. This track, recorded at Paisley Park on February 18, 1988, features Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss on saxophone and trumpet, respectively, on the album “Love Symbol.” The saxophone parts were later used on the previously unreleased track “Carmen On Top.” Prince’s catchy vocals float effortlessly over a backdrop of complex drumming and a mysteriously rhythmic synth bass, while razor-sharp horn passages cut in. This funk track features Prince’s vocals, sung in various versions by other artists, including “Cool Love,” “Sticky Wicked,” “Love 89,” and “Come Home.” The album sounds like a wonderful masterpiece, packed with songs with potential for success. The “Love Song” with Madonna and “God Is Alive” with Mavis Staples are also gorgeous, featuring impressive guest appearances.
