Introducing the Fukuoka performance of the ONA tour. The sound quality is superb, recorded with a superb audience, simply amazing! The setlist for this day was astonishing to see and hear; it was incredible! Prince himself repeatedly shouted “Fukuoka!” as the drum solo and The Rainbow Children began! The excitement was already building. The band responded with a fantastic performance, almost in response! Even Prince knew from this moment that this show would be amazing! The highlight of this show was the world premiere of “Push And Pull!”! A Nikka Costa cover, it’s a fantastic rock ballad reinterpreted by Prince! Then, in “1+1+1=3,” he delivered a captivating, upbeat performance of “Fukuoka, We Party,” hyping up the crowd. Then, there was the fantastic live take of “Strollin’,” and, from here, the highlight of the show: As soon as the funky jam by Pass the Peas was over, he played Larry Graham’s “Hair,” with Prince even providing vocals! At the same time, Prince’s chopper bass exploded! He even performed 777-9311 and The Stick, with a cool, bass-heavy performance! It was such a wonderful experience, it almost felt like an after-show performance! He even played the Commodores’ famous funk track, “Brick House”! This is a rare performance, even including European performances, and of course, only on this day in Japan! His amazing jam with Maceo was irresistible! Even the “Maite Maite” chant popped out, giving me goosebumps! The Fukuoka performance was incredible! Then, during the encore, he played a fantastic arrangement of “Empty Room.” And, best of all, after the band retired after four mellow songs, Prince came out on stage alone to sing “Last December!!!” His acoustic version of this song would have anyone peeing their pants! It was such a joy to be alive! This was a highlight of the Japan tour. The rare songs, the excellent performance by Prince and the band, and the result was one of the best live performances ever.
