Description
A free concert featuring Rolling Stone was held on December 6th at Altamont Speedway in Livermore, California, a suburb of San Francisco. These two festivals are truly light and dark. This Altamont concert, held in the last year of the 60’s, brought back to reality the idealism of hippie culture and rock that evoked the image of “love and peace” created by the success of Woodstock, and the illusion of rock. I think it’s fair to say that it really tells the story of the end. Construction of the venue took place the night before in sub-zero temperatures with the help of several hundred people. At that time, many young people were already heading to the venue, and the road to the venue was heavily congested. It is said that the number of young people who eventually gathered was between 300,000 and 500,000. The sun had already set, and the venue was enveloped in darkness. Fans are looking forward to the Stones’ appearance. Then, the Stones finally appeared on stage. The first song is “Jumping Jack Flash”, just like the opening song during the tour. The first interruption was during the third song, “Sympathy for the Devil.” Mick orders Keith to stop the concert as a fist fight breaks out at the venue and the concert is no longer in progress. Mick tells the audience to calm down, and when it quiets down, Mick says, “Something’s gonna happen when we play this song,” and the Stones start playing again. They managed to play the song to the end, but the fight started again, with Mick saying, “Who’s fighting for what?” and Keith pointing at someone, “We won’t play unless he quits.” I’m pretty angry. Some people in the audience complain about the Stones. The members managed to perform on stage even though they looked shaken. And then “Under My Thumb” began. As the song nears its end, confusion occurs once again. A black member of the audience named Meredith Hunter points a gun at the stage. A member of the Angels stabs Meredith in the back with a knife and beats her up. Mick calms down and Keith takes out his anger. At this point, neither Mick nor Keith seemed to know that a murder had been committed. In the end, the members managed to finish their performance, quickly boarded the helicopter, and left the venue. 06 December 1969 Altamont Festival Altamont Raceway Livermore, California U.S.A.
