Description

The live footage from the Wiltern Theatre in LA in November 2002, which was held as part of the theatre gigs on the Licks tour, was suddenly broadcast on the BBC, causing a stir among enthusiasts around the world. It was reported that the Wiltern gig was also filmed in real time, and four songs were later released as bonus live footage on the documentary disc in the “FOUR FLICKS” DVD set. Furthermore, the opening song “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” was broadcast on TV, and while the existence of the footage was confirmed early on, it was only released in small doses. It was a surprise that it was suddenly broadcast this July. However, it was unfortunate that not all the songs from the gig were broadcast, and even the theatre repertoire of “Neighbors” and “Hand Of Fate” were cut. Of course, these are songs that can be seen at the Olympia Theatre in “FOUR FLICKS”, but enthusiasts can’t help but think that they should have cut even the common songs from the second half of the live (lol). Keith’s “You Don’t Have To Mean It”, which was used in “FOUR FLICKS”, was also cut. Still, the 70-minute recording time and the vivid image quality of the latest broadcast in 2022 are well worth watching. The Stones are strong at recording, and the entire band is quite excited here, but since it is a gig that even rock celebrities such as Neil Young and the late Tom Petty rushed to, they are more excited than usual. Or you could say it’s overacting (wry smile). The first two songs are already quite exciting, and Mick and Ronnie are clearly conscious of the recording, such as playing with Daryl Jones, and it is heartwarming to see such scenes everywhere. The Ricks tour, which seemed like a recent past, has already passed 20 years ago. That’s why Keith’s crisp stage action and dignified looks look fresh now. At that time, he was just about to turn 60. Even though some songs were cut, the highlights of the day, including the repertoire and scenes, were well recorded. Mick’s incredible singing in “Stray Cat Blues” is impressive, and “That’s How Strong My Love Is,” which was particularly popular among the theater repertoire, is also attractive. However, the biggest highlight of the day was “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love,” which was performed with the surprise appearance of originator Solomon Burke. Of course, this is the take that was adopted for the live album “LIVE LICKS,” but here you can see it with the video. When you actually watch it, it is assumed that the recording of “FOUR FLICKS” was postponed because the giant Burke only appeared for about half the performance, but still, the scene where the late R&B giant duets with Mick is impressive. The ending, in which Burke puts the cape that he usually puts on Mick’s shoulders as he leaves, is really heartwarming. And the video is also unique in that you can see the really happy and innocent expressions of Mick and Keith after he leaves. They must have been happy to be able to perform with the R&B giants they admire. It was a peaceful scene that could only be found at a theater gig. Now, the pro-shot footage of the Wiltern Theater, one of the most popular theater gigs from the nostalgic 2002 Ricks Tour, has suddenly been released. Another big attraction is the easy-to-watch length of 70 minutes. Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, CA, USA 4th November 2002 PRO-SHOT (69:07) 1. Introduction 2. Jumping Jack Flash 3. Live With Me 4.
