Description

A complete collection of music related to the movie “Zabriskie Point” (released in 1970), famous as a treasure trove of Floyd outtakes, organized and thoroughly recorded in a concept by overseas fans, is now available in a 2-disc press package! From November to December 1969, Floyd recorded many songs for the movie “Zabriskie Point” in Rome, but due to the wishes of director Michelangelo Antonioni, who did not understand Floyd’s music, many of them were not used in the movie, and only three songs that were actually used in the movie were included in the soundtrack released in 1970, and four new songs were released on the Rhino 2-disc expanded CD released in 1997 (although I was surprised at the sudden release of the outtakes at the time). However, although there are differences in the sound quality of the many other takes recorded at that time, many high-quality numbers are circulating underground without being officially released. In the old days, Oenone and Fingal’s Cave, which were famous from the analog record era, were included in OMAYYAD (TMOQ), and in recent years, Rick Wright’s piano demo of Violent Sequence, which first appeared on A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME & SPACE (SCORPIO) (finally officially released in the Madness Box), are famous, and all of them were coveted items for fans. This title is a complete collection of “Dune” that thoroughly covers all “Dune”-related sound sources by reusing not only those underground takes, but also the Rhino 2-disc expanded CD and the film version of the main movie. The section titled 370 Roman Yards – The Lost Album in the first half of the first CD is a lost album made up of songs selected and assembled with the concept of what if Floyd had produced a full album based on the theme of “Dune”. It is composed of three songs from the original soundtrack, as well as famous outtakes such as Oenone and Fingal’s Cave. However, this is not just a collection of existing materials, but is recorded with sound sources that have been treated with the producer’s thorough attention to detail. For example, the second track, Country Song, has the left and right stereo reversed, and in contrast to the official take, which had a dry texture overall, a slight reverb has been applied to the drums to create a sound with a sense of realism and brightness. In addition, the fourth track, Crumbling Land, has been supplemented with an upgraded version of OMAYYAD (TMOQ) that was recently unearthed, which was cut from the final sound effects section of the Rhino 2-disc extended CD. The second half of the first disc, titled The Extension – The Main Outtakes, contains officially unreleased outtakes other than the lost album in the first half. The speed of each song, which was out of sync on the existing version, has been corrected to normal here, and the left and right stereo volume balance has also been beautifully corrected. Next, the second CD is composed of outtakes not included in the first disc. To briefly list the main items, the second track, The Violent Sequence, is from the recently released Madness BOX, and seems to be the same take as the outtake version of the 9th track on the first CD, but the mastering is different, and the outtake version on the first CD has a longer beginning and end than the released version. The fourth track, Crumbling Land, is clearly different from the take on the first CD, and the performance ends a little sluggishly, making it a fresh session sound source. The 11th track, The Christmas Song, does not seem to be directly related to “Dune” itself, but it is a very rare outtake with Nick Mason’s vocals, which was recorded in Rome, the same place as the soundtrack of this period. Disc 1 is the limit of 80 minutes, and Disc 2 is 77 minutes long, making it an overwhelming volume with plenty to listen to, and the definitive “Dune” edition is now available overseas under a limited press title!
