Description

VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan in 1978 was a major event in the history of Japanese Western music. An original recording set will be released to enrich the legendary on-site collection. Although I wrote “set”, there is only one live performance recorded in this work. This is a two-disc set containing two audience recordings of the “June 22, 1978: Nakano Sunplaza” performance, one on each disc. VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan is a legend among legends. For that reason, our store has archived various masterpiece live albums. First of all, let’s check the position of this work according to the schedule and organize the collection.・June 17th: Tokyo Employees’ Pension Center “ERUPTION IN TOKYO” ・June 19th: Tokyo Employees’ Pension Center “ERUPTION IN TOKYO” ・June 21st: Nakano Sunplaza ・June 22nd: Nakano Sunplaza “DEFINITIVE” TOKYO’S ON FIRE” & ★This work★ ・June 24th: Nagoya City Public Hall “NAGOYA 1978” ・June 25th: Osaka Festival Hall “OSAKA 1978” ・June 26th: Kyoto Kaikan ・June 27th: Osaka Festival Hall “OSAKA 1978” June 28th: Osaka Expo Hall (additional performance) *Representative audience recordings only on each day. That’s all 9 performances. Four performances were held in Tokyo, and the Nakano Sunplaza performance of this work is the last day. As some of you may have already noticed, this show is also known for leaving behind the absolute masterpiece “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE (Zodiac 308)”. This work is a live album that allows you to enjoy that miraculous scene from a different position. This work is a set of 2 sound sources as mentioned above. As expected, neither is as good as “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, but that is because the other party is at fault. There is no point in comparing it to the absolute version, which could be the pinnacle of all rock live albums, let alone all of VAN HALEN’s records. However, just because it falls short of miracles does not mean that the value of this work is diminished. Just because there is DEEP PURPLE’s “MADE IN JAPAN”, the audience recording of the first visit to Japan is not meaningless. In fact, aside from that super masterpiece, the two sound sources of this work are more than enough masterpieces. “TAPE #1 (=DISC 1)” is the first recording of this work, and “TAPE #2 (=DISC 2)” is a recording of the Langley era masterpiece “EASTERN ERUPTION” refined through meticulous mastering. However, both are surprisingly turned on. When you listen carefully with headphones, you can feel the atmosphere in the vocal tone, but that’s just at the tone level. The extremely thick core is right in front of you, and the details are also super vivid. The bass, which tends to be faint, has a lot of density, and the guitar is so solid and clear that you can feel the mass in the sound. Both were probably recorded very close to the PA. It is a close and powerful recording that does not seem to be a 70’s audience. What you can enjoy with these two types of recordings is the miraculous masterpiece that is familiar from “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”. In fact, “TAPE #1 (=DISC 1)”, which was released for the first time in this work, is an incomplete recording up to the middle of the show. Let’s organize the recording situation here. Songs that can be heard on both “TAPE #1” and “TAPE #2” – Flame Fuse: On Fire/I’m the One/Runnin’ With The Devil/Atomic Punk/Little Dreamer/Feel Your Love Tonight/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love/Ice Cream Man・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor・Unreleased song: Down in Flames “TAPE #2” only song・Flame Fuse: Eruption/You Really Got Me・Legendary Bomber :D.O.A./Bottoms Up!…and it looks like this. It seems to be repeated many times, but this show has the treasure “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, so it doesn’t matter whether it’s a rare song or not. The real thrill of being able to experience the scene of the legendary first visit to Japan, and the scene of the transcendent masterpiece from a separate seat, is life. This work is a two-disc set that delivers that taste with the highest quality. This is VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan, which is comparable to LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PUPRLE’s first visit to Japan. This is the cultural heritage of rock music that allows you to experience the scene you want to experience from any number of seats at any performance.
