Description
The history of the band UFO dates back to 1969. Although it currently lags behind bands such as Zeppelin, Purple, and Sabbath, which were formed around the same time, it had a great influence on later hard rock bands, such as Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, etc. There are also many core members such as Metallica. After releasing their debut album in 1970, UFO performed in Japan for the first time in 1971. At the time, it was just before it became popular, and they were scheduled to perform on a joint stage set with Three Dog Night. However, because Three Dog Night was suddenly canceled, UFO came to Japan alone, but the venue was Hibiya Noon. UFO’s fame was established and it became a worldwide success after 1974’s “Phenomenon”, which featured Michael Schenker. Not only was the album highly complete, but the hard rock with its beautiful melodies matched the needs of the times and gave the band worldwide fame. The following year, in 1975, they toured the United States on a large scale, and in 1977 they released their masterpiece, “A New Murderous Intent”. This period can be said to be the peak period for UFOs. At the same time, Michael Schenker became recognized as one of the world’s best guitarists, along with Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page. In this way, UFO started climbing the stairs to success, but signs of decline were gradually beginning to appear due to troubles between the members. Then, in 1978, Michael Schenker, who was the core of the band, left the band. The second performance in Japan was held at an unfortunate timing after Michael left the band. Still, the performance in Japan was highly anticipated after the release of “UFO Live,” which is considered a masterpiece of live albums, and in fact, they captivated Japanese fans with their wonderful performance.
