Description
An amazing recording from the 1976 “NO HEAVY PETTING” tour, when Michael Schenker was still in the band in the 1970s, was at the peak of UFO’s popularity and momentum! This work, recorded on the best stereo soundboard recording of the Hollywood Starwood Club performance on May 3, 1976, will become an unshakable staple among fans, along with the 1975 live performance “LIVE FORCE”! After Michael Schenker joined the band in 1974, UFO released a series of excellent works, “PHENOMENAN” and “FORCE IT,” and increased their popularity not only in the UK and Europe but also in the US. UFO (i.e. Phil Mogg), who was always looking for change at the time, welcomed Paul Chapman as second guitarist in 1974 (he soon left the band due to Michael’s opposition), and had Chick Churchill guest on keyboards in the production of “FORCE IT.” For the “FORCE IT” tour, former HEAVY METAL KIDS member Danny Peyronel participated as the official keyboardist. The ’75 US tour, which took place for two months from September to November, was a huge success, and succeeded in determining UFO’s popularity in the US. Danny also contributed greatly to the production of the following “NO HEAVY PETTING,” injecting elements of rock and roll that are familiar to American fans. The band began touring in April ’76 prior to the release of the album, and landed in the US again in May. This work records the Hollywood performance on May 3rd, the third performance from that ’76 US tour, with the best sound quality stereo soundboard sound source. This Hollywood performance in May ’76 was held three consecutive performances at the same “Starwood Club,” and the existence of a soundboard sound source of the first day was known mainly to some enthusiasts (it seems that there is also a sound source that is miscredited as “March 3rd”). The sound source that will be featured this time is of superb quality, even with the line source, and can be said to be the best. In addition to the excellent clarity and visibility, the dynamic tone of each member’s playing is mixed, and the realism that captures the excitement in the venue will give the listener the best entertainment. As you can see from the audience’s “UFO!” call that suddenly pops out when the disc is played, the venue is hot from the start. In the opening new song “Can You Roll Her”, Danny’s rock and roll flavor intertwines with Phil’s bluesy singing voice and Michael’s provocative guitar, making the live show a thrilling performance from the beginning. In the second song, “Doctor Doctor” is already featured, drawing the listener firmly into the live show! The early masterpieces “Oh My” and “Out In The Street” that are featured next are also passionate performances that are typical of UFO. Pete Way’s bass and Andy Parker’s drums, reproduced with a thick sound, also seem to raise the dynamism of the songs to the next level. The highlights in the middle of the live are “Highway Lady” and “I’m A Loser” from “NO HEAVY PETTING”. The former, written and composed by Danny, is particularly impressive among UFO’s songs of the ’70s, and it’s great to hear it with such a powerful sound! The live finally reaches its climax with “Let It Roll”. The performance is overwhelming, from the amazing stereo feeling of “This Kids” in the middle, to the passionate performance of the slamming “Shoot Shoot”, and the no-questions-asked “Rock Bottom” (Michael’s long solo is of course agonizing!). The audience will be knocked out by the band’s playing and excellent sound! The last songs, “C’mon Everybody” and “Boogie For George”, are also long versions over 8 minutes each. The total live performance of about 75 minutes is full of excitement and makes you listen to it all at once. UFO live shows in the 1970s are well known for their semi-official live recordings, but this work is just as impressive as them, and will entertain you with the amazing power and vividness of the UFO live shows of that time. Along with ’75’s “LIVE FORCE,” this is a gem that allows you to enjoy the energetic UFO sound of their youth with the best entertainment. This is the definitive item that will fascinate not only UFO and Michael Schenker fans, but all hard rock fans! Live at Starwood Club, West Hollywood, CA. USA 3rd May 1976 STEREO SBD 1.
