Description

The whole world is abuzz with “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017”. A special tour to fully reproduce the album in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the historic phenomenon “THE JOSHUA TREE”. A luxurious set of the live album and the best video footage of the premiere is here. The premiere performance included in this work is “May 12, 2017 Vancouver performance”. First, let’s take a look at the outline of this special tour. ・May 12-26: North America #1 (7 performances) ←★Here★ ・June 3-July 1: North America #2 (14 performances) ・July 8-August 1: Europe (12 performances) These are the total of 33 performances announced so far. Right now, we are entering “North America #2”. The other day, we delivered the first report of the live album “SANTA CLARA 2017 (Uxbridge 671)”, which is the third performance. The Vancouver performance of this work is the genuine first night. This is a three-disc set with the full audience recording on disc 1-2 and the audience shots on disc 3. [Disc 1-2: Full live album] First of all, the complete audience album appears. This is a master who appeared later than the third Santa Clara performance, but this is also a wonderful sound! It is not a type that is “like a sound board”, but the core of the solid musical sound is comparable to line recording, and the details are kicked out. The bass is particularly wonderful. The deep bass, which tends to be a weak point in audience recordings, sounds thick and beautiful. Of course, the bass is not outstanding, and the overall balance is beautiful. On top of that, it is clear enough to have a presence in each and every sound of the bass. I never thought that the historic premiere that the whole world paid attention to would be enjoyed with such a wonderful sound… The premiere depicted with that sound. This is also wonderful. As mentioned in the commentary of “SANTA CLARA 2017” mentioned above, the show is roughly divided into three sections. The first part is “WAR + THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE Selection”, the second part is “THE JOSHUA TREE All Songs”, and the third part is “Encore of Recent Songs”. Of course, the whole world is paying attention to the reproduction part of the second part, but the first and third parts are also well thought out. The first part is not just famous songs, but is selected from the two albums just before “THE JOSHUA TREE”, creating a sense of the era for the reproduction part, and entering the reproduction part with a big impact. And in the encore that awaits after the great impression, the era progresses further by arranging recent songs, and finally finishes with “The Little Things That Give You Away” from the latest work “SONGS OF EXPERIENCE” to be released this year. Although it is not strictly chronological order, the flow is “introduction → famous album → modern → future” overall. When it comes to a famous album reproduction show, it often tends to be nostalgic from start to finish, but the audience goes home with a sense of expectation for the new work … It is a show unique to U2 that has been thought out. On top of that, this work has plenty of points that are only for the premiere, which are not found in other performances. First of all, the set is different. “MLK”, which is played in the first part, is a selection only for the premiere. It was replaced with “Bad” from the second performance, and that has continued to the present. The other is the new song “The Little Things That Give You Away” mentioned above. This also dropped from the set at the eighth performance, and now “I Will Follow” is the big last. Of course, that is the common sense decision, but it is unfortunate that the flow that ends with the precious “future” was broken. In that respect, this work depicts the composition as they originally envisioned it as real music. And the mood of the audience. After all, this day was the world’s first “THE JOSHUA TREE” reproduction night. Without knowing the production, the whole story is filled with a sense of breath and a burning feeling of the scene. It is a live album where the atmosphere of the show where fans all over the world wanted to be there flows out of the speakers. [Disc 3: Audience Shot] And Disc 3 conveys the scent of the premiere in a scene. This is a masterpiece audience shot that we introduced in the gift board the other day. This disc makes full use of various angles, and is a video work in which a maniac thoroughly collects the footage that appears on a song-by-song basis and assembles it into almost a full view of the show. Some songs are shot with one camera throughout the entire song, but on the other hand, some songs have a multi-camera specification in which countless cameras are switched without saying one phrase. In particular, at the closest angle, Bono’s face is full of the screen. There are few people who shoot between songs, so there are some scenes that fade in and out, but whether the performance part is a single camera or a multi-camera, you can witness it in the best view. And the persuasiveness of the “scene” is overwhelming. The first part is a simple 360-degree stage, but the highlight is the huge screen from the second part. The scale, scale, and sense are all amazing. It’s too amazing. First of all, the size. It is as tall as a 3-4 story building, and I don’t know how many meters it is on either side. It is a huge wall of images, roughly like a skyscraper turned on its side. Images of each song, such as endless highways, wilderness, forests, and mountain ranges, are projected onto it. It is truly “THE JOSHUA TREE to see with your own eyes”. This is the historic premiere of “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR”. A well-thought-out composition, a huge spectacle, the emotion of witnessing it…all of this is a huge masterpiece that approaches the audience’s gaze. Minor changes to the show have already begun, but this is the prototype. This is the true form of “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR” that they originally had in mind. As the tour progresses, there will be more masterpieces to come, but there will never be a second premiere. This is an exquisite 3-disc set that puts you in the field of such a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Live at BC Place Stadium, Vancouver, BC. Canada 12th May 2017 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc 1(53:28) 1.
