Description
“80/81” is a masterpiece in which Pat Metheny’s thirst for improvisational jazz came to fruition into a miraculously beautiful piece of work, with the help of some of the most powerful musicians of the era. From the tour with the “80/81” members that took place in the summer of 1981, the year after this historical masterpiece was recorded, the Hamburg performance on August 29th is now available as an official high-quality soundboard recording. Disc-1 contains a fierce improvisational battle over DeJohnette’s overwhelming beat, and Disc-2 changes completely, with “Every Day” where Michael Brecker’s saxophone spins the most beautiful melody, PMG’s classic “James” is also arranged in a way unique to these members, creating a moving climax. This is a great item that is a must-have for all jazz fans.
