Description

ZZ TOP in 1980, when “DEGUELLO” became a platinum hit and finally entered its heyday. The first appearance soundboard album that pours the live performance into your brain is here. This work contains the “Toledo performance on August 17, 1980”. It is a newly excavated soundboard recording. Speaking of live performances in the “DEGUELLO” era, the classic pro shot “ROCKPALAST 1980” reigns as a symbol, but of course this work is a different performance. In order to understand the situation around that, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time. 1979, July 29th: Appearance at ALBERTA JAM (“DEGUELLO” released in November) ・November 20th – December 31st: North America #1a (24 performances) 1980, January 4th – April 15th: North America #1b (46 performances) ・April 19th – 25th: Europe (5 performances) ← *ROCKPALAST 1980, May 1st – 30th: North America #2 (31 performances) ・July 5th – September 24th: North America #3 (17 performances) ← ★Here★ ・October 29th – December 31st: North America #4a (16 performances) 1981, January 2nd – 22nd: North America #4b (5 performances) (“EL LOCO” production) This is the overall picture of the “EXPECT NO QUARTER Tour” that accompanied “DEGUELLO”. “ROCKPALAST 1980” was filmed on an exceptional European tour, but this work is “North America #3”, about four months later. It was the 11th concert. On this day, it was a festival format with Sammy Hagar, HUMBLE PIE, AC/DC (from the HIGHWAY TO HELL era!), and ZZ TOP was also one of the first six groups. Until now, audience recordings were unknown, but this work is a soundboard recording that was excavated very recently. It was not broadcast or officially leaked, but was directly transferred from a tape recorded on the day. The sound tells the story of the excavation through sound. It is a direct connection to the mix table with a vivid rawness, and while the live performance flows out unprocessed and unadjusted, the loud cheers are recorded like ripples far away. Moreover, this work is the best version that has updated the highest peak. In fact, the original sound that appeared on the Internet had an unstable section in the first two minutes (whether it was a recording problem or tape deterioration), and it was recorded in mono from the start to the sixth song (the eleven songs from the seventh song to the end are stereo). In this work, such defects have been repaired by meticulous mastering. Although it has not been forcibly stereoized, the sound cuts and jumps are carefully connected with different parts of the same song. The live performance is seamlessly connected, and it is a music difference product that can be enjoyed without stress. Such a newly excavated sound board is also a hot topic for super rare songs. In order to explain the surroundings, let’s organize the set while comparing it with the classic masterpiece pro shot “ROCKPALAST 1980”. Elegy for the Massacre (7 songs) I Thank You / I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide / Manic Mechanic / Lowdown In The Street / A Fool for Your Stockings / Cheap Sunglasses / Dust My Broom Others (10 songs) Tres Hombres: Waitin’ for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago / Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers / La Grange Fandango!: Heard It on the X / Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings / Tush Others: Francine (★) / Barefootin’ (★) / Arrested for Driving While Blind *Note: The “★” mark indicates a song that was not included in the classic pro shot “ROCKPALAST 1980”. …And so it goes. The axis is the smash hit “DEGUELLO”, with 7 of the 10 songs on the album being a big hit. There are many representative songs because it is a hit work, but around “Lowdown In The Street” is a repertoire that was only available at that time. And even more than that is “Barefootin'”. It is a cover of Robert Parker that is not included in the album, but it is a super rare song that is said to have been performed only 2-3 times in the entire history of ZZ TOP. You can enjoy the phantom live performance that was difficult to even hear until now on the sound board. Until now, the “DEGUELLO” era was thought to be the strongest in “ROCKPALAST 1980”. This is a sound board album that overturns such a theory and allows you to enjoy the super rare song “Barefootin'”. It is a piece that maximizes the potential of the newly excavated master. A newly excavated sound board recording of “Toledo performance on August 17, 1980”. The rawness of the direct mix system is fully opened with the leaked sound board that was excavated very recently. The opening part, which was unstable in the original sound, has been meticulously mastered to create the highest quality album, and you can enjoy “Lowdown In The Street”, which was unique to that time, and the extremely rare song “Barefootin'”, which was only played three times in the entire history of ZZ TOP.
