Description

Joe Zawinul and John McLaughlin were the key figures in Miles Davis going electric. The two, who both respect each other and compete at a high level, led their own band on a double bill tour, and McLaughlin performed for 30 minutes during the latter half of The Winul Syndicate’s stage in London, which was the highlight performance. The legendary live performance with guest participation appears for the first time in high quality! ! From the legendary 1995 European tour with his own syndicate and Free Spirit double bill, Zawinul performed at London’s prestigious Royal Festival Hall on October 9th, which was the highlight and final performance of this tour. McLaughlin jumped into the syndicated performance for the last 30 minutes, the longest part of the tour, for 80 minutes of extremely high-quality sound that was carefully mastered by the label from the master tape of the person who recorded this performance. A fully recorded powerful edition has arrived! ! The opening song will be “Introduction to a Mighty Theme” from the masterpiece “My People”, which is currently being recorded and has yet to be released, and will be written by African-Malian superstar Salifu Keita. Famous song “Walaya”. Incidentally, Zawinul, who became close friends through the production of the masterpiece that brought Keita to global recognition, also used Keita in “My People.” Keita sang the song in the studio version, but here you can hear Zawinul’s own vocals using a vocoder. Next up was Weather era’s “Scarlet Woman” and the playful “Rockin’ in Rhythm” with improvisation in between. In addition, they put on a full-fledged performance showing off the main songs from “My People” such as “Mi Gento” and “You Want Some Tea Grandpa” from “My People”! The large audience was transfixed by stateless hyper music full of exoticism that they had never experienced before! The super group, which brings together extremely talented artists from all over the world, led by Zawinul from Austria, will put all of their talents under the direction of the brilliant Zawinul, and the ensemble and performance will be truly spectacular. In particular, the drums of the genius Paco Seri, who learned it completely by himself, the explosive bass of Matthew Garrison, a favorite of Zawinul who discovered many outstanding bassists, and the bouncing percussion rhythm section of Alto Tunchiboyajiyan, who is also a talented singer. The rhythm ensemble is like a gale, and there’s not even a single sound! Zawinul’s meticulous keyboard operation and precise rhythm construction, including his synths, which were particular about the tone, were perfectly matched with the excellent improvisers of the members, led by Zawinul, making for a perfect performance. They presented a colorful sound with a documentary feel, like drawing a picture on a campus, and colors invisible to the eye…And then, in the second half of “Orient Express,” McLaughlin finally joined the band. It is overwhelming to see how he uses incredible techniques to play fast phrases that can’t be stopped by the eye, and can completely change the surrounding scenery in an instant. Furthermore, the rare jam ends with the final song “Corner Pocket”…A great performance at a prestigious British venue, which can be said to be a live version of the peak of Zawinul’s career, “My People”, in which his ally McLaughlin also participated. Completely recorded in high-quality master sound, this is a must-listen album no matter what. I recommend it with confidence! !
