Description
From the US tour accompanying the release of Yngwie Malmsteen’s “TRILOGY,” the performance in Maryville, Indiana on November 27, 1986 has been released on a completely new original cassette master, completely different from the previously recorded source! This work, which allows you to enjoy Yngwie’s performance at the very peak of his playing at that time with the highest quality audience sound and the longest recording on the same day, is a must-listen for all metal enthusiasts. It has been decided to release it as a 2-CD set worthy of its status! It has been 30 years since he made his brilliant major debut with STEELER and ALCATRAZZ in 1983. Yngwie Malmsteen still reigns at the top of rock guitar. There are many notable works and live performances in his career, and each fan will have different favorite eras and works. Few would disagree that “TRILOGY” was the “peak of Yngwie’s early career.” His godlike playing was already known to everyone, but even more than that, the excellent songs also proved that Yngwie was an exceptional composer (Yngwie’s autobiography and other sources reveal that he had a strong experimental spirit when composing at that time). And the most amazing thing was the fiery live performance after the start of the tour. Yngwie himself recalled that the live performances of “that era” were “just too much,” and even just listening to the recordings exudes a sense of awesomeness that you can feel on your skin. This recording is a vacuum package of Yngwie’s live performance from that “peak era” with the highest quality sound of the era! This work is a direct recording of the Maryville, Indiana performance on November 27th from the US tour immediately after the release of “TRILOGY” from the original cassette master provided by Taper. The recorder is the famous Taper, who left behind many excellent live recordings in the United States in the 1980s, such as MOTLEY CRUE’s “THEATRE OF ROSEMONT” and METALLICA’s “THE ECSTASY OF ARAGON”. This work also captures the enthusiasm of Yngwie’s live performance with outstanding clarity, superb realism, and easy-to-listen-to performance (this live performance is the same as the previously released “INDIANA TRILOGY” on the Shades label. It was previously credited as “November 22”, but based on Taper’s testimony and records, this work is credited as November 27. Of course, the recording is a completely different master). When you play the disc, Yngwie’s guitar pops out loud and ultra-clear amid the cheers from the venue (a sound that gives you goosebumps even though it’s just a sound check)! The outstanding visibility and clarity that backs it up are truly the original master. The band’s overall musical tone is full of directness, and the powerful sound image should knock out all listeners. Not only Yngwie’s guitar, but also Anders Johansson’s drums and Jens Johansson’s keyboards feel as close as line sound sources, even though they are audience recordings. In early November 1986, just after the release of “TRILOGY”, Yngwie led Jeff Scott Soto and others on his second tour of Japan. There must be many enthusiasts who experienced the enthusiasm at that time up close. However, the intensity of the live performance that can be heard in this work will surprise even enthusiasts who have seen the performance in Japan, saying “Isn’t it better than the Japanese performance!?” The outline of the set and performance is also the same as the performance in Japan, but the band ensemble is even more substantial. The three new songs, “Liar” which starts with a strong momentum, the melodic “Queen In Love”, and the speedy “Fury”, are all impressive listening. Jeff performed a fantastic performance that was just as good as the sung by Mark Boals on the album. The rhythm created by Anders’ drums and Wally Voss’ bass was also very tight, drawing loud cheers from the audience. Just listening to these performances, you can understand that the band is in the best condition. The climax of the first half of the live performance is “Far Beyond The Sun”! Yngwie’s guitar is raging throughout the whole song, but it doesn’t lose its beauty. The middle part is the best, where the elegant phrasing overflows with the realism of a soundboard (Wally Voss’ bass also stands out clearly). The last song, “The Star Spangled Banner”, also appeals to the American audience (of course), and flows into the following “Fire” in the best mood! The clear guitar sound of “Soldier Without Faith” from the previous album “MARCHING OUT” is a must-listen for Yngwie fans. Jeff also has a more expansive singing voice than the “TRILOGY” numbers. Furthermore, “Icarus’ Dream Suite Op.4” and “I Am A Viking” heat up the highlight of the middle part of the live! The 10-minute guitar solo that unfolds from “I Am A Viking” is truly transformative! On Disc 2, following the introduction of the members, “You Don’t Remember I’ll Never Forget” explodes! Although the song was released just after the release, it already numbs the listeners with its presence as a representative song and masterpiece! Furthermore, the venue was the biggest excitement of the day with “I’ll See The Light Tonight”, which continues from “Trilogy Suite Op5”. The main part of the set ends with a raging performance. The encore begins moodily with “Black Star” from “Blues” (the beginning of “Blues”, which was already missing from this recording, is also included). The sound of “Black Star”, with its lyrical melody spun clearly and directly, is one of the best recordings of the time. The final song was the ALCATRAZZ number “Too Young To Die, Too Drunk To Live,” bringing the 85-minute concert to a dramatic close! The live performances on the “TRILOGY” tour, which was the peak of both technique and energy, were the best, with all enthusiasts exclaiming, “This is Yngwie!” This work, which conveys the performance to current fans with the best recording ever, is truly a cultural heritage of sound! This is the definitive recording that all metal fans cannot miss, and it is now available as a must-listen, must-have! Live at Holiday Star Theatre, Merrillville, IN.
