YES, EL&P, ASIA… “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” brings together the best family bands in the progressive rock world. Introducing the latest live set where you can experience the dream scene. This work includes “White Plains performance on June 20, 2019”. “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” is currently underway with 4 groups: YES, the new AISA, CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY, and John Lodge. At our store, we are introducing the best album “BETHLEHEM 2019” from the first day of the tour, and this week we will also simultaneously release the transcendent video “BETHLEHEM 2019” of the YES edition. Including those, let’s first check the show’s position from the overview of the super luxurious coupling tour. ・June 12th “BETHLEHEM 2019” ・June 14th-18th (4 performances) ・June 20th: White Plains performance [this work] ・June 21st-30th (7 performances) >>Now Coco<<・July 3rd – 28th (16 performances) Total of 29 performances. We are now almost at the halfway point. The first day album “BETHLEHEM 2019” that I introduced the other day was only YES and ASIA, but this work is a 5-disc set that includes audience recordings of 3 groups including CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY and an audience shot of main act YES. . Unfortunately, there is no recording of John Lodge, so it is incomplete, but it is a superb audience set that allows you to fully enjoy three families whose members overlap with each other. Now, let’s introduce each disc individually. [Disc 1: ELP LEGACY + Arthur Brown] The first to appear is CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY. At our store, we have been reporting on the latest live performances, but this time it is a special of specials. After all, the members are amazing. Carl Palmer and Paul Bielatowicz are regulars, but David Pastorius is the nephew of bassist Jaco Pastorius. And Arthur Brown is participating in guest vocals! Karl was a member of THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN in the 60’s, but I never thought that the legendary singer would sing an EL&P number… And the singing is so powerful. He was on the mic for “Karn Evil 9”, “Knife Edge”, and Arthur’s signature song “Fire”, and his theatrical vocals, which had a wide influence on later progressive rock and heavy metal, are just right. Unique. “Karn Evil 9” seems to have been poorly rehearsed, but the voice quality is surprisingly good, and the 18th song “Fire” is a masterpiece of the original shock rock. Even more shocking is “Knife Edge”! The heavy song and frightening singing voice match perfectly, transforming this famous song into a completely new theatrical number. I thought he was just participating because of his connection to THE CRAZY WORLD, but I never expected him to take a well-known masterpiece and make it so fresh. It’s truly a shocking song. I’m late, but the sound that recorded such a show is also wonderful. The live album version (discs 1-4) of this work is mastered by the same recording artist, and that recorder is “Relayer35”, a master who has been attracting attention in recent years for progressive rock recording. Although it is definitely an audience recording that breathes in the atmosphere, the sound does not give a sense of distance, the thick core approaches the on, and the details are vividly drawn along with it. Furthermore, there is a sense of elegance in its sound. The vivid feeling seems to be the latest recording, but the sound created by the band itself has a 70’s color, and it gives off a lot of flavor like a super vintage recording. It is exactly the best sound that is perfect for the show. [Disc 2: New ASIA with Ron Searle] Next is the new ASIA with the addition of modern genius Ron “Bumblefoot” Searle. At the scene, he was in third place behind John Lodge, but perhaps Relayer35 didn’t record it, or maybe he wasn’t interested in THE MOODY BLUES, or maybe he wanted to maintain a sense of unity. Is it? In any case, it appears that only three groups have been made public. Aside from that, Bumblefoot plays the guitar and sings AISA with the best sound carried over from the ELP LEGACY edition. Bumblefoot is generally known as the talented guitarist of the former GUNS N’ ROSES, but he is also an extremely talented singer. While singing Wetton’s famous songs in the original key without feeling out of place, he nails phrases that are unique to the guitar hero of our time. Of course, his many techniques are also based on consideration for ASIA’s traditions, and while he occasionally makes you “haha”, he never loses the image of the song. Billy Sherwood, who was the vocalist in 2017, also participates on the bass, but he will listen to a show that is much more ASIA-like than that time. The set drawn with such an ensemble is also a highlight. Since this is a festival tour where YES is the main event, the duration is less than an hour, but the content is very special. In addition to famous songs such as “Alpha” and “Astra,” there is a variety of songs such as “Video Killed The Radio Star” and “Lucky Man” (although I would have liked to have heard Arthur Brown sing “Lucky Man” as well). The highlight is the last four songs. The special songs “Wildest Dreams,” “Sole Survivor,” “Only Time Will Tell,” and “Heat Of The Moment” from the famous album “Roman to Time” are played, and Steve Howe also appears here! You can hear plenty of the guitar that is unique to the originator. [Disc 3-4: YES full of rare songs] [Disc 5: Super-excellent video of YES edition] And finally, YES is the main attraction. Discs 3-4 are live albums, and disc 5 is the best full video. The live album version (discs 3-4) is by the same recording artist as ELP LEGACY and ASIA, but the sense of unity of the completely consistent sound is truly wonderful. In ELP LEGACY → AISA, Carl Palmer is connected, and in ASIA → YES, Billy Sherwood / Geoff Downs / Steve Howe remain. On the actual stage, John Lodge’s show is included between ELP LEGACY and AISA, but the lack of Lodge makes the show feel even smoother. Of course, the video edition (disc 5) is also the best. It is an audience shot taken from the right side of the stage (closer to Steve Howe), but if the spectacular view where only the stage occupies the field of view with zero occlusion is overwhelming, the bold zoom that clearly shows even the guitar strings and hair is also amazing. The transcendental video “BETHLEHEM 2019: THE COMPLETE VIDEO” from the first day of the tour will also be released at the same time, and they are truly two great videos that form a pair of masterpieces. And, the content of the show is just as special as ELP LEGACY and AISA, so I’m very excited. With the current lineup supported by Jay Schellen, there are no surprises like Arthur Brown or Bumblefoot, but the set is more than that. The band opens with “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed,” which was fresh from their recent performance in Japan, and then slides into “Tempus Fugit” and “Going For The One.” In the middle of the show, they perform “Onward” and “America”, which they haven’t heard in a while, but the highlight is definitely the final part. The unexpected “Rhythm Of Love” and the first big song in 18 years, “The Gates Of Delirium” are about to come together, and in the encore, this year’s biggest highlight, John Lennon’s “Imagine” pops out. These points could be tasted in the first report “BETHLEHEM 2019”, but since then the song order has changed, and “Clap” is included in the set instead of GTR’s “Sketches In The Sun”. Since it includes such rare songs, there are few classics, but that’s not a bad thing. You can now enjoy the extremely rare set that is currently arousing prog rock enthusiasts all over the world with the finest sound. It also includes CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY, which was not heard in the masterpiece “BETHLEHEM 2019”, and is a superb live set that approaches the essence of “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” even more. This is a rare 5-disc set that features a group of masterpieces that will go down in progressive rock history while changing members, and each set is full of special members and famous songs.
