Description
From the second North American tour accompanying the “TORMATO” tour that started in April 1979, the 5th performance, the Louisville, Kentucky performance on April 13th, is recorded with an ultra-high quality microphone recording for about 2 hours. After the encore performance of I’ve Seen All Good People, a DJ from radio station “WLRS-102” appeared on stage. “This day is the 102nd live promoted by WLRS,” he announces, and the audience applauds, but in this recording take, the sound is so good that this radio station uses a fixed microphone stand. It is a well-established theory that it was recorded from a reel tape recorded with professional equipment. The opening Siberian Khatru and Heart Of The Sunrise are missing and unrecorded (they were not recorded on the original tape), but from the third song Future Times to the encore Roundabout and the rare 2 minute outro tape. You can enjoy almost the entire show with solid localization and the clearest sound that rivals line recording. Probably because it was recorded from a microphone stand set up in the mixer booth section, the surrounding cheers are picked up, but the granularity of the musical tones and vocals is absolutely beautiful and fresh. The parts where the cheers are quiet are truly high quality sounds that anyone will believe to be the sound board sound source. The breadth and richness of the sound is truly wonderful, and anyone (perhaps listening to it for the first time) will be captivated by the high-quality sound image of the master sound source owned by the radio station. I think it can be said that the sound separation and punch are perfect, and it is the appearance of an ultra-high quality master that reaffirms the fact that excellent microphone recording surpasses even broadcast sound sources and sound boards. The big medley that can be heard with this sound, Don’t Kille The Whale that will drop the set after this, and the big song Awaken that will be performed in the latter half of the show are sure to impress all Yes fans. I’ve never heard a take recorded with such clear tone during the dramatic part in the middle of Awaken where the keyboard and harp throb. This is a record that clearly shows that even when recording with the same microphone, different equipment and environments can produce amazing results. All the many analog petit noises that were found in the original master were carefully removed. Furthermore, by remastering and brushing up the sound, the originally excellent sound has been further upgraded. This is the arrival of a new masterpiece that is a must-listen for fans.
