This is a soundboard recording of a live performance by Israeli jazz pianist Yaron Hellman’s quintet. Israel has produced many high-quality jazz players, two of the most famous being the two Avishai Cohens (who share the same name). Bassist Avishai Cohen, in particular, has discovered many virtuoso pianists, including Shai Maestro, and the mere mention of an Israeli jazz pianist is enough to elicit a positive response. The recording was mastered from an FM broadcast, resulting in occasional unnatural moments, as if the DJ’s chatter had been cut out between songs. These issues have been addressed during the remastering, with the sound intensity slightly increased. Even if you’re new to Yaron Hellman, this is a must-listen. Fans of piano jazz, such as the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and Go-Go Penguin, should definitely listen.
