Description
The second day of the tour, June 20th in Nagoya, was recorded as a super high quality audience recording using the original master provided by the recorder, from the 2008 Japan tour led by Dave Meniketti, which was the first in 12 years for Y&T. You can experience the special Japan tour, which was the last with the lineup featuring Phil Kennemore, in the best sound. Y&T, which was active from the late 1970s to 1980, was forced to disband in 1991, but released a comeback album “Musically Incorrigible” in 1995. In May 2003, they participated in the “Monsters of Rock” UK tour with WHITESNAKE and Gary Moore, showing their fans that they were still alive and well. However, they had not performed in Japan for a long time, since the 1996 Japan tour following the release of “Musically Incorrigible” mentioned above. It was only in 2008, after the release of their official live album “LIVE: ONE HOT NIGHT”, that Y&T set foot on Japanese soil for the first time in a long time. This 2008 Japan tour began with a performance in Osaka on June 19th, and continued with four performances on consecutive days until the Kawasaki performance on June 22nd, delighting many fans who had been waiting for Y&T’s live performance. This work completely records the Nagoya performance on June 20th, the second day of the tour, on two discs from the original DAT master. You can enjoy the “Best of Y&T” live performance that covers their representative songs to the fullest with the realism and power that can only be achieved by an excellent audience recording! This recording was made by the same taper as Y&T’s “MONSTERS OF ROCK TOUR 2003” series and Gary Moore’s 6-CD press set “LEFT ME WITH THE BLUES”. Immediately after playing the disc, the recording captures the heat and excitement of the venue in a realistic way, which is superb. The close atmosphere creates a club gig-like mood, making the listener feel like they are one of the audience. Of course, the clarity of the sound is excellent, and not only Meniketti’s guitar and vocals, but the entire band ensemble can be enjoyed with a wonderful direct feeling and a solid listenability (especially Mike Vanderhule’s drums are powerful). When the obligatory opening intro “From The Moon” sounds majestically and announces the start of the show, the excitement of the fans is already at a boiling point. From there, “Hurricane” and “Black Tiger” are played as if they are cutting into the music, and they are sure to excite hard rock fans! The set list had the feel of a “best album experienced live,” with one great song after another, starting with “Down & Dirty,” the band’s signature song “Dirty Girl,” and “Mean Streak,” one of the most famous numbers from the ’80s. From “IN ROCK WE TRUST,” which was released in the mid-’80s when the band’s career was at its peak, came “I’ll Keep On Believin’ (Do You Know)” and “Don’t Stop Runnin’,” as well as “Anything For Money” and “Summertime Girls” from “DOWN FOR THE COUNT.” In between these, songs from the ’90s such as “Fly Away,” “Ten Lovers,” and “Pretty Prison” were also woven in, ensuring that the audience would not tire of the show. Meniketti, who is also called a “living national treasure” by his fans, showed off his melancholy and tearful guitar playing throughout the show. Furthermore, the emotional and soulful vocals, which are as full of heart as the guitar, will move the listeners’ hearts. In particular, “Midnight In Tokyo,” where Meniketti and John Nyman weave twin leads in the intro, is a highlight. Not only in this song, but throughout the entire album, Meniketti’s guitar, which not only adds depth to the technique but also to the tone of the sound, is superb! Furthermore, drummer Mike Vanderhule, who has been with the band since 2006, also beats out a rhythm that meshes perfectly with Phil Kennemore’s bass. “Squeeze,” in which Phil sings, is definitely the highlight of the live show. As a result, this 2008 tour was the last time Phil played in Japan. If you are a fan, you will feel a burning passion in your heart. The main part ends with the masterpiece “Forever.” During the chorus, the entire venue joins in a big chorus, giving the listeners a great feeling. The encore was “Surrender” and another classic “I Believe In You” which was performed for over 9 minutes, bringing the 2-hour concert to a close in a great mood. Y&T came to Japan again in 2011, but Phil’s death was announced just before the tour, and Brad Lang played bass in his place. This recording of Phil’s last visit to Japan in 2008 was vacuum-packed with the highest quality sound, and can be said to be a treasure for avid Y&T fans. Please take this opportunity to enjoy this must-listen must-have album for fans! Live at Electric Lady Land, Nagoya, Japan 20th June 2008 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1(70:14) 1.
