Description
This CD contains a coupling of live performances in Austria in 1980 and 1987 from the official unreleased live performances of the genius trumpeter Woody Shaw. Tracks 1-3 include a performance at the Vienna University of Technology on January 28, 1980. This is a performance with a quintet including saxophonist Carter Jefferson of the Woody Shaw Group, performing Victor Lewis’s “Why” and his own composition “Opec”. Tracks 4-6 include a performance at the Volkhaus in Steinach on October 29, 1987. This is a performance with Woody Shaw’s one-horn quartet, performing three songs: his own compositions “Zoltan” and “Organ Grinder”, and Carl Fischer’s “We’ll Be Together Again”. You can enjoy the brilliant tone and modern phrasing of Woody Shaw, who led jazz from the late 1970s to the 1980s, in high quality sound, which is unique to live performances. 1. Intro (00:32) 2.
