Description

At the height of the fusion boom, the famous trumpeter Woody Shaw, who passed away in 1989 while maintaining the traditional style of hard and aggressive jazz, performed a famous live performance in Ancona with a quintet that he discovered, including the talented Mulgrew Miller. A thrilling 3-disc set featuring the genius Hutcherson as a guest and Coltrane’s numbers coupled with hot keystone performances is now available! ! On February 17, 1983, the first and second sets of the Ancona performance in Italy were performed by the same quintet as the official live album “Time is Right”, which recorded the live performance in January 1983, for 2 hours. The two complete recordings above include a rare live performance in the fall of the same year at the prestigious Keystone Corner in Palo Alto, California, just below Shaw’s knees, with the quintet featuring vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson as a guest. A 3-disc set has arrived, both of which are coupled and recorded in the highest quality stereo sound that has been carefully mastered by the label! ! The Ancona performance had only one song overlapping with the live album “Time is Right” recorded before January, and moreover, only 4 songs could be heard on the official version, but this one has a total of 9 songs. With more than double the number of songs performed and recording time, you can fully enjoy the full story of the show’s proud quintet. In addition, the Keystone Corner performance, which was recorded as a coupling, is a separate Z list from the Ancona performance above, except for one song, and with Hutcherson’s participation, you can thoroughly enjoy this fulfilling show. In the late 1970s, while many musicians took advantage of the fusion boom and changed their styles, the famous trumpeter/flugelhorn player, who stuck to hard and aggressive jazz while maintaining the traditional style, sadly passed away in 1989. Woody Shaw. Led by Margrew Miller, a talented pianist he discovered himself, the quintet unleashed its full potential, led by trombonist/Haitian shell player Steve Touré, bassist Stafford James, and drummer Tony Reedus. The passionate Ancona performance expressed. The show’s rounded and glossy tone, which mixes originals and standards and plays confidently with a stately blow, is truly something that will give you goosebumps! ! On the other hand, the live show at Keystone in which Hutcherson, who has known Shaw since the days when he was called the new mainstream, was all about Coltrane’s “Afro Blue.” Without cutting any corners, the sincere play that is cited as the top attraction of the show hints at a deep spirituality, and the encounter with Hutcherson’s cool play makes it a wonderful performance that lets you enjoy the spiritual sound. In addition, the entire album is packed with listens, including “When Lights Are Low,” which can be considered a tribute to Miles. Also, throughout both performances, you should not miss the excellent performance by Mulgrew Miller, who will be the right hand of the show. The strongest 3-disc set, Shaw’s masterpiece, is born here, perfectly capturing two extremely passionate performances in the early 1980s when Woody Shaw, who was around 40 years old, was at his most active in the early 1980s! !
