Description

This work includes “March 1, 1984 Glasgow Performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording recorded at the 11th performance of “Europe #1” as described in the main commentary. As I mentioned in the main commentary, this sound board has been made official with the Ultimate Edition of “SLIDE IT IN”. However, this work is not a copy of the official version, but the previously known FM broadcast version. This is one CD of the highest peak master. The difference from the official version is “length” and “sound.” First of all, regarding the length, this is the official victory. The broadcast version was about 50 minutes long, but the official version also included “Slow An’ Easy,” “Need Your Love So Bad/Thank You,” “Slide It In,” and “Don’t Break My Heart Again.” It was about 77 minutes added. The other thing, “sound”, is superior to the broadcast version (although there are differences in taste). The official version is made to be powerful by increasing the sound pressure, but as a result, the details are crushed, and even worse, the performance sound itself becomes noisy. If you say it without choosing the right words, it will sound “dirty.” Of course, it would have been fine for general listeners who didn’t know the broadcast version, but for enthusiasts, they were half happy and half disappointed, saying, “Even though it’s a long master, I’m saying it in a hurry…” Of course, this work does not have such uncool mastering. Although there is a feeling of congestion at the peak due to the characteristics of the broadcast itself, you can enjoy it with a much more natural sound than the official version. And the ensemble drawn with that sound is wonderful. In fact, Sykes began to blossom after Mel left the group and began playing the guitar parts on his own. Although it doesn’t have as much bombast as SUPER ROCK or ROCK IN RIO, the sounds that come out at key points are definitely a development of “SLIDE IT IN (US Mix).” It’s not like you’re always trying to knock it down, but rather it’s like aiming and delivering a killer phrase. Furthermore, speaking of the deliciousness of “A: 6-person formation”, it is Mel’s chorus. Bernie Marsden was a good singer, but Mel was also very good at singing. Combined with Coverdale and Sykes, who would later become the main vocalist, the three-part chorus is thick and the quality of the voice stands out. Although the power of the plucked guitar is not as good as “C: 4-piece formation”, “A: 6-piece formation” is overwhelmingly superior in terms of the thickness of the sound and the gorgeousness of the chorus. “A: 6-piece” WHITESNAKE was not as metallic as SUPER ROCK or ROCK IN RIO, although it contained the brilliant virtuosity of Sykes. Because it was a transitional period, it was full of flavor that you wouldn’t find at any other time. This is a live album where you can enjoy that special ensemble on a stereo soundboard.
