Description
Early WHITESNAKE embodied the ideal of British blues rock. A superb title that takes the ultimate so-called “CLASSIC SNAKE” to the next level is now available. This work is engraved with the superb stereo soundboard recording of “August 26, 1979 + August 24, 1980 Reading Festival”. In addition, it is a DVD mainly featuring professional shots of the “October 5, 1980 Washington Performance”. Both are classic classics that represent CLASSIC SNAKE, but this work is a superb edition that takes the highest peak. That is no surprise. As the sharp-eyed person may have guessed from the title above, this work is an official production. However, it is not a copy of the official product. This is a mystery, but in fact, a master with “test” written on it was obtained from a unique route. It was pressed. How is that a mystery? Let’s introduce each disc individually. [Disc 1: Reading Festival 1979] The first disc that appears is disc 1, which is the biggest mystery disc. Although there is no information about the master we obtained this time, the contents are definitely related to the official box “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. All three discs are very similar to “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. However, this disc surpasses the essential official version. I’ve just started talking, but “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” itself is not very famous, so let’s start with the basics. “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” is an official box released in 2011. It was the ultimate box that covered all official works from the debut EP “SNAKEBITE” to “SAINTS & SINNERS”, as well as the soundboard live of the 1979/1980 Reading Festival and clips and pro shots of CLASSIC SNAKE. However, David Coverdale, who places importance on the Geffen era, released it as a limited edition. Of course, it was very popular and quickly sold out and out of print. Due to its popularity, it was reissued as “LITTLE BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” as early as 2013, but a tragedy occurred. The Reading Festival and pro-shot collection DVDs, which are the roots of its popularity, were cut, and only the regular album, which is not rare or anything, was reissued. In the end, only the half-baked box that has no meaning is alive at present. And then there is this work. Only the three highlights that were cut from the reissued version of “LITTLE” are included. That alone is amazing, but in fact it is even more than that. In particular, “Reading 79” on disc 1 surpasses the former “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. In fact, the “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” version has sound quality far beyond the broadcast bootleg, and enthusiasts around the world have been raving about “why the master before the broadcast mix remained” and “this is the official version”, but it was not perfect. For some reason, the pitch was slightly low, and there was also distortion on “Love Hunter” that seemed to be due to master deterioration (deterioration that does not exist in the famous bootleg broadcast version). However, since the basic sound quality far surpasses the broadcast version, it was hardly considered a problem. However, the “test” master of this work does not have that flaw. The quality that surprised and delighted enthusiasts all over the world remains the same, and if the pitch is normal, the deterioration of “Love Hunter” has also been repaired (it cannot be said for sure, but it seems that it is probably not a compensation from the broadcast version). It is the ultimate live album without any flaws. Was it an editing test at the time of the initial release, or was it a separate release plan for the amount that was cut from “LITTLE”? The truth is completely unknown, but in reality, there exists an ultimate stereo soundboard album that is better than the officially released “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. [Disc 2: Reading Festival 1980] Following such a shocking “Reading 79” is the highest peak of the finest stereo soundboard album when it served as the final of the Reading Festival on “August 24, 1980” the following year. This was a great performance among the great performances that were said to be “exceeding LIVE… INTHE HEART OF THE COTY” and “the ultimate of CLASSIC SNAKE” from the broadcast version, but the “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” version was also the ultimate in terms of sound quality. This is also a master who wrote “test”, but this is very similar to the official version. There may be some differences somewhere, but (sorry) I couldn’t find any differences. However, even if it was the same as the official version, it would be transcendent, exquisite, and the top. The sound quality of the ensemble that exceeded 1979, just after Ian Paice joined, and the legendary intro added to “Mistreated”, etc. You can enjoy the great performance known as “the ultimate of CLASSIC SNAKE” with the highest quality ever, exceeding the broadcast version. [Disc 3: Promo clip & the only professional shot of the highest peak version] The last is a collection of videos that compiles professional shots of “CLASSIC SNAKE”. Although this is also a test master for “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”, I could not tell the difference from the actual official version. The contents are roughly composed of three sections: “PV collection”, “TV appearance”, and “Washington performance pro shot”. Some of the early PVs are of a quality that does not seem like an official product, but this was the same as the actual “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. However, basically each video is of the highest quality ever. The highlight of all of them is the multi-camera pro shot of “Washington performance on October 5, 1980”. This video has been known for a long time, but this is the oldest and only pro shot live of WHITESNAKE and CLASSIC SNAKE. Although the video reflects its rarity, it is a master quality that is on a different level from the existing group. Coverdale is a person who processes even valuable archives excessively and earns the ire of enthusiasts, but “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” was supervised by Bernie Marsden, not Coverdale. Perhaps because of that, it is the best version ever, which even enthusiasts will be satisfied with. This work is a dual-layer DVD, as per the original “test” master. The test master of “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” is a mystery. However, regardless of the background, the content is the best and best soundboard album of CLASSIC SNAKE, and a collection of professional shots. Although they have created such a definitive work, the official side feels only frustration for some reason that it is out of print, but this work will clear up that regret at once. FREE-like deep voice, blues taste inherited from the early FLEETWOOD MAC, twin ensemble that also introduced the harmony of WISHBONE ASH … CLASSIC SNAKE, the pinnacle of British blues rock.
