Description
On April 15th, 1983, the band appeared at the Universal Amphitheater (now Gibson Amphitheater) in Los Angeles on the world tour accompanying the release of the album “Procession” and received a huge ovation. This is the first recording of the high quality audience master sound source recorded in stereo by Robert Collins, a famous rock taper, with two microphones, and digitally transferred by Goody. Incidentally, the Weather Report sound source recorded by Robert Collins was released at the Starlight Bowl in 1982, but it is now out of print. Now, as for this performance, it is a live performance of the fourth Weather Report, with Omar Hakim and Victor Bailey joining the rhythm section after the departure of Jaco Pastorius and Peter Erskine. You can hear the performance of the two young members who gave the band even more power and shocked rock fans. The famous song “Birdland” starts with Shorter’s 4-beat sax solo, which is rare. There were two encores, and the recording artist named the improvised duet by Zawinul and Shorter “Delicate Fantasy.” The 1983 world tour started in Las Vegas on February 26th and continued until the Fukuoka performance on August 4th. At the time, there were many noises because Jaco had left, but listening to their performance again now makes you realize that they were a band that stood out from the rest.
