Description

The July 8th show from the 1976 Montreux Jazz Festival, which he performed immediately after joining Jaco, has been made into a DVD from a master tape that can be said to be the highest quality ever from the TV on-air source at the time. In particular, the camera work that frequently captures the hands of each member is maniacal and fans will be happy. The set list is often powerful and heavy, centering on numbers from the newly released “Black Market.” On the album, Zawinul’s well-controlled and detailed sound comes to the fore, but on the live show, Jawinul’s precise sound comes to the fore. Of course, Acuna/Badrena’s rhythm section is amazing, as well as their superhuman bass playing! Shorter/Zawinul are also actively involved with this wonderful rhythm section, and a thrilling interplay space is developed throughout, creating a lively performance that can only be found at this time of year. Jaco, who at that time was an almost unknown newcomer who appeared like a comet, will forever preserve the memorable 76-minute full live performance that was a night that shook the jazz world! 1.ELEGANT PEOPLE 2.SCARELET WOMAN 3.BARBARY COAST 4.PORTRAIT OF TRACY 5.CANNONBOLL 6.BLACK MARKET 7.BADIAGIBRALTAR Ts.Ss./Wayne Shorter Key/.Joe Zawinul B./Jaco Pastorius Ds./Alex Acuna Perc /.Manolo Badrena
