Description

WEATHER REPORT in 1982 entered its final chapter with the departure of Jaco Pastorius. A new excavation live album that conveys the scene is now available. This work includes “Chicago performance on July 9, 1982”. This is a superb audience recording that records the whole story. Speaking of 1982, the final work “WEATHER REPORT” in which Jaco participated was released, but he and Peter Erskine did not participate in the subsequent tour. They were replaced by Victor Bailey and Omar Hakim, and Jose Rossi also participated on percussion. The lineup for “PROCESSION” was already solidified. In order to imagine the circumstances around that, let’s first look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. 1982 [January “WEATHER REPORT” released] June 29: Denver performance July 9: Chicago performance ←★This work★ July 19: DR. PEPPER SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL appearance 1983 [February] “PROCESSION” released》・March 3rd – April 9th: North America (6 performances) ・April 30th – June 3rd: Europe (8 performances) ・July 29th: Japan performance (LIVE UNDER THE SKY ’83) This is the 1982/1983 WEATHER REPORT. “WEATHER REPORT” was released in early 1982, but Jaco and Erskine left before then. It had been half a year since the album was released when we stood on stage under the new system. Then, we will move on to “PROCESSION” with the new lineup, but only three shows were held in between. The Chicago performance of this work was the second concert. This work, which was recorded at the turning point, is an extremely wonderful audience recording. This work is also the latest work in the much talked about “COVID-19 RELEASE!” series. This is a treasured master series released in order to survive the restrictions on going out due to the new coronavirus pandemic that is currently plaguing the world. A number of incredible recordings are being released for the first time, mainly in Chicago in the early 1980s. Our store has delivered the “COVID-19 RELEASE!” series of various bands/artists, but this work is by far the most beautiful. In fact, it is not the close-contact feeling of a sound board, but it is the type that picks up a little hall sound, but the atmosphere creates an exquisite luster, and the open view is filled with the performance. Not only is the core rushing straight in front of you, there is nothing to obstruct the spreading sound, and while the delicate vibe is beautiful, it does not hide any details at all. The reason for its beautiful sound is probably its positioning. This work is recorded in the front row in the center of the stage, but this is slightly different from the usual front row. In front of you is an orchestra pit with about 10 rows of space, creating distance from the stage and eliminating any obstructions. Of course, since it’s in the front row, the surrounding noise that erupts between songs has a three-dimensional feel, and nothing really comes between the performance and myself. This is the secret to creating a sound that doesn’t lose its clarity and vividness, yet allows you to enjoy just the delicious flavor of the sound that creates depth and luster. And, what is depicted with such a sound is a full show of WEATHER REPORT, which sums up the Jaco era and steps into a new chapter. Just saying the live performance after joining Bailey & Hakim is valuable, so let’s organize the set here. Jaco Pastorius era (11 songs) ・BLACK MARKET: Black Market/Elegant People・HEAVY WEATHER: A Remark You Made/Birdland・8:30:8:30・NIGHT PASSAGE: Fast City/Rockin’ In Rhythm・WEATHER REPORT :Dara Factor One/Dara Factor Two/Speechless/Volcano for Hire Others (5 songs) ・TALE SPINNIN’:Badia ・PROCESSION:Procession/Where The Moon Goes/Plaza Real/Two Lines …And so it goes like this. Masu. A style that evenly selects from the five Jaco era works other than “MR. GONE” and intersperses early versions of numbers included in “Badia” and “PROCESSION”. In particular, the new songs are placed at important points such as the opening, the beginning, and the last encore, and you can feel the pride of stepping into the future. Of course, this awareness is engraved not only in the show composition but also in the ensemble. As a result, “PROCESSION” became the best work representing the latter half, and the enthusiasm and imagination that went into creating such a masterpiece overflowed from the performance, and the past repertoire was also beautifully recolored. Not only in his column, music is often the freshest and most exciting in moments of change, and this is a live album that proves that through sound. WEATHER REPORT from the 1980s, when the jazz/fusion scene itself underwent major changes, and as a result, it was heading towards its end. However, the music played there was extremely mellow, and was by no means comparable to that of the Golden Age. This work is a new excavation live album that allows you to fully experience such a stage with the finest “sound right in front of you”. A 2-disc set that allows you to fully enjoy the precious show from a special seat just by listening to it.
