Description
“Russian version of MONSTERS OF ROCK” was said to be the last legendary festival held in the golden age of HR/HM. The symbolic footage is reprinted with the highest quality. [The phantom out-of-print official footage is made into a DVD with the highest quality in history] This work was filmed at the “September 28, 1991 Moscow performance”. This is a multi-camera pro shot. AC/DC was the headliner for this show, and METALLICA, THE BLACK CROWES, and PANTERA also participated. In addition, a total of five groups, including local band E.S.T., appeared. The footage was officially recorded and was also used in the official live albums and singles of each band. Just the other day, a complete live album was included in the deluxe edition of METALLICA’s “BLACK ALBUM”, which became a hot topic. This work is the video version of such an official product. This is a DVD version of the pro-shot work “FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK: MONSTERS IN MOSCOW,” which features 13 songs by the five groups that performed. This video work was released on VHS and laser disc in 1993, but was soon out of print. It has not been made into a DVD to date. This work is a reprint from a Japanese LD, which is the highest quality of such treasured footage. The mint quality version was entrusted to a specialized overseas manufacturer and meticulously transferred to DVD. We have reprinted various out-of-print footage from LD, and I’m sure you are already aware of its high quality. Sometimes, when the official DVD comes out, the master tape has deteriorated over time, and our LD version is more beautiful… The image quality is so beautiful that the accuracy is still there in this work. [The real story of a chaotic super-huge festival that even the military was introduced] Please understand that the image quality and sound quality are “completely official class” and “the highest peak in history,” and move on to the content. This work contains 5 groups and 13 songs, each of which is a valuable pro shot, but in fact, that’s not all. The “reality of Russia” that took place there is intense. To explain its meaning, we must introduce the background of the event. This will be a bit long, so please skip over it. Speaking of “MONSTERS OF ROCK”, since the West German version was held in 1983, it has expanded year by year and grown into a festival tour throughout Europe. Then, in 1991, when the Cold War ended, it finally advanced to Russia, the main base of the communist bloc. However, this Moscow event was completely different in meaning and scale from the other versions. First, the meaning. At that time, the collapse of the Soviet Union was in the midst, and only about one month had passed since the end of the “August Coup”. Ten of the 14 constituent countries of the Soviet Union had declared independence, and the world’s strongest federal republic was crumbling day by day. In the midst of this, the rock festival entered as a “symbol of freedom”. And the scale. According to the documents, this festival attracted an enormous mobilization of 1.6 million people (!). To give you an idea of how huge this number is, for example, the 1983 “US FESITVAL” had 670,000 people over four days, and the 1985 “1st ROCK IN RIO” had 1.4 million people over 10 days. The average number per day is around 150,000. However, this event gathered 10 times that number in just one day. Well, it seems that the data is wrong, but even if it is one digit lower, it is 160,000 people (by the way, the “Moscow Music Peace Festival” two years before this work had 120,000 people). It is not possible, but you can understand that it is on a different level from “one of the festival tours”. And this work depicts the reality of this huge event with a vivid depiction. Interviews with members and audiences are inserted between the live shows, and the sense of the era that wafts from their words is intense. “Communism is over. It doesn’t exist anymore,” “We fought the Reds to protect rock on roll,” and other testimonies that would be impossible in other times and places come out one after another. The recently-occurring “August Coup” is also discussed, and barricades built by citizens to protect the young people whose friends were killed and Yeltsin’s house are also featured. Of course, since this is a Japanese laser disk, such comments can be vividly understood with full subtitles. Although it would be understandable if it was just the documentary scenes, this work is not normal even during the live performance. The sight of countless huge crowds writhing is also powerful, but it is not the police but the Soviet army that is in charge of the venue. There is a testimony that “If I were a police officer, it would be difficult because (young people) hate me,” but it is hard to imagine that the Soviet army is liked. Security and the audience glare at each other, hitting and kicking the crowds that are rushing in. There are also young people literally covered in blood being dragged out. It comes out on the best live pro shots of THE BLACK CROWES and METALLICA… it’s completely chaotic. A pro shot live of four groups playing the era of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the best HR/HM of the time. It is a masterpiece of a video that depicts “1991” by intertwining the two. In the 1960s, it was believed that rock could change the world. That belief and longing continued to live on even after the commercialization of the 1970s, and culminated in the charity boom of the 1980s. However, in the 1990s, the music industry itself began to decline, and rock also lost its “power of the era”. The year 1991 engraved in this work was just before that. The “Moscow version of MONSTERS OF ROCK” was the dawn of a new era and at the same time the last brilliance. If the beginning of the golden age of HR/HM was the “US FESITVAL” in 1983, this work is the last fireworks. Multi-camera pro shot of the phantom masterpiece “MONSTERS OF ROCK, Moscow version, September 28, 1991”, which cannot be officially reissued because of its strong period color. This is the highest quality version ever, where the out-of-print official footage was precisely converted to DVD from the Japanese version LD. You can enjoy 13 official pro shot live performances of 5 groups, including AC/DC, METALLICA, THE BLACK CROWES, PANTERA, and local band E.S.T. Even more intense is the mood of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Between the songs, the vivid scars of about a month after the “August Coup” are drawn, and the Soviet army is in charge of security at the venue, and there is also a scene where the audience is assaulted. This is a phantom super masterpiece video that combines the best pro shots with a sense of the era.
