Description
Introducing a masterpiece soundboard album that is even said to be “one of the most important sound sources” by enthusiasts. The important edition was recorded at “July 11, 190 MoCDN-04110 True Performance”. This is a superb stereo soundboard recording from a performance at the traditional music festival “Montreux Jazz Festival”. Speaking of “Morrison of Montreux”, “LIVE AT MONTREUX 1980/1974”, which was also made official, comes to mind, but Morrison has appeared many times since then. Especially since the 1990s, it has become semi-regular. This work is a live album from the time when such a tradition began. On the other hand, 1990 is also remembered as the year in which “ENLIGHTENMENT”, which reached number 5 in the UK for the first time, was released, but this work is a little different. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position.・January 1st – April 5th: Europe #1 (22 performances) ・April 12th – 20th: North America #1 (8 performances) ・April 25th: Paris performance ・June 3rd – August 5th: Europe #2 (13 performances) ←★Here★ ・August 27th-September 5th: North America #2 (8 performances)《“ENLIGHTENMENT” released in October》・October 12th-November 27th : UK (22 performances) December 20th-22nd: Ireland (4 performances) This is Van Morrison in 1990. “ENLIGHTENMENT” was released around autumn, and after that we toured the UK/Ireland, but this work was released before that. This was the 8th concert of “Europe #2”. As mentioned earlier, this work that recorded such a show is called the “most important work” by enthusiasts, and the reason for this is the wonderful performance and sound. Especially the sound quality is great. I’d like to call it “completely official,” but that alone might not convey the flavor. The sound is glossy and the balance is beautiful, and overall it can be said to be a masterpiece among the official works. However, there is a slight sense of reality that is typical of a live broadcast. It doesn’t have the same harshness that comes with listening back and reproducing it after a live performance, and it has a great sense of reality because it’s being played right now. Even if it is an FM sound board that is commonly called “official grade”, it is extremely rare to find a sound source that combines beauty and reality. This work is said to be “the most important” by enthusiasts precisely because it has achieved this. The show drawn with such a sound is also delicious and exquisite. Speaking of the summer of 1990, there is also the famous album “PHILADELPHIA SPECTRUM 1990” by our excavation sound board (this is the live album of “North America #2” according to the above schedule), but this work is also said to be a festival appearance. Well, the sets are also different. Let’s compare and organize them here. 60s/70s ・Here Comes the Night (★) / Sweet Thing (★) / Domino / Caravan / Jackie Wilson Said (I’m in Heaven When You Smile) / It’s All in the Game 80s ・Summertime in England / Northern Muse (Solid Ground)/When Heart Is Open/In the Garden (★)/Did Ye Get Healed?/ Star of the County Down/Whenever God Shines His Light (★) Cover etc.・Yeh, Yeh (Mongo Santamaria) /Baby, Please Don’t Go (★: Big Joe Williams) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on “PHILADELPHIA SPECTRUM 1990”. …and it looks like this. Although it is difficult to count since there are medleys, the repertoire is roughly 1/3, or 5 songs, that cannot be heard on “PHILADELPHIA SPECTRUM 1990”. From “Here Comes the Night”, which he covered during the THEM era, to “Whenever God Shines His Light” from “AVALON SUNSET”, which was the latest work at the time, there is a wide selection of songs that are almost never covered by albums. Also, speaking of the “AVALON SUNSET” era, the official video “THE CONCERT” remains, but it is even different from that, and the four songs that overlap are “Star of the County Down”, which are mainly classics. Just “Whenever God Shines His Light,” “Summertime in England,” “Caravan,” and “In the Garden.” Although it is close to the time, you can enjoy a really fresh show. Despite only having the opportunity to perform once a year, Van Morrison has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival 20 times to date. That’s how much I love Montreux and am loved by Montreux. This is a piece where you can enjoy the 1990 show that pioneered such regularization with official-quality sound. Casino de Montreux, Montreux, Switzerland 11th July 1990 STEREO SBD (74:52) 1.
