Description

Another hidden treasure live album has appeared. Introducing a new master from the “flame fuse” era that shocked the world. Currently, the world is devastated by the news of Eddie Van Halen’s death, but the collector world has begun digging as if to ease the pain. This work is one such new master. This is an excellent audience recording of “March 24, 1978 Upper Darby Performance”. Of course, the biggest point is the surprising sound, but first of all, the position of the show. Let’s take a look back at the whole picture of the world tour that took the world by storm along with their debut.・January 27th + February 8th: Warm-up [“Flame Fuse” released on February 10th] ・February 18th – April 28th: North America #1 (46 performances) ←★Here★・May 4th – June 10th: Europe #1 (27 performances), June 17th – 28th: Japan (9 performances), July 1st – September 30th: North America #2 (54 performances), October 9th – 27th: Europe #2 (13 performances) November 3rd – December 3rd: North America #3 (24 performances) [Production of “Legendary Bomber” started on December 11th] This is the 1987 VAN HALEN. The fact that he has already visited Japan for the first time four months after his debut conveys the impact of the appearance of a giant star, but the Upper Darby performance of this work is even earlier. This was the 20th performance of “North America #1”, which took place one and a half months after the release of “Flame Fuse”. Moreover, the schedule for the first few performances of “North America #1” is not so packed, and the full-scale start will take place in March. This work was still in the early stages of getting off to a great start. This work, recorded at such an early concert, surprised me with its powerful and super direct sound! Anyway, there was no sense of distance, and we were in close contact. It feels like the extremely thick core is “oscillating” right there, rather than “reaching” it. Of course, since it’s so close, the details flow right into your ears before they become cloudy, and the detailed cymbal work and the rubbing of the guitar strings are super clear. Although the tone has a slightly vintage feel, it is a famous recording with an ultra-direct sound that can be proudly called “just like a soundboard.” Although it is a surprising new master, this work is also its highest peak. In fact, there were some disappointing points with this master. On one channel in the second half, I could hear other music that had been erased on the tape, and the pitch was off by a half step. In this work, these shortcomings have been thoroughly corrected. Of course, the pitch is perfectly aligned, and other music is neatly removed (although that part is monaural, it can be enjoyed seamlessly without any discomfort from the stereo part). We also adjusted the bass balance, which was a bit too powerful (?), to maximize the potential of the new master. What is depicted with the best sound is a passionate performance of a man who has just left his hometown and started a life on the road. At the time, he was the opening act for JOURNEY along with MONTROSE, and the undercard slot lasted less than 40 minutes. However, because it is short, it is very rich and the ensemble is so strong that it seems like the whole movie will lose its full power. In fact, all nine songs played are “Flame Fuse” numbers, so I will omit the set analysis, but that is precisely why it has the scent of a “live performance version of the debut work”. Of course, the excitement of standing on stage in front of the audience is not the same as in the studio, and has been upgraded to be even more intense. I would say it is a “flame fuse”, but it is a show where the time for the fuse has passed and the bomb is exploding. The debut of the giant VAN HALEN, who forcibly moved rock history. This is an amazing new excavation live album that allows you to witness the scene with close-up sound.
