Description

VAN HALEN’s legendary first visit to Japan came four months after his debut. A masterpiece live album set that conveys the scene is now available. This work includes two performances “June 25th + 27th, 1978: Osaka Festival Hall”. It is a 2-disc set with the audience recording arranged on each disc. Their first visit to Japan was a historic event that will remain in the history of Japanese Western music. For that reason, we have archived many masterpiece live albums at our store. First, let’s look back at the dates back then and organize the collection.・June 17th + 19th: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall “ERUPTION IN TOKYO” ・June 21st: Nakano Sunplaza ・June 22nd: Nakano Sunplaza “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE” ・June 24th: Nagoya City Public Hall “NAGOYA 1978”・June 25th: Osaka Festival Hall ←★Disc 1★・June 26th: Kyoto Kaikan・June 27th: Osaka Festival Hall ←★Disc 2★・June 28th: Osaka Expo Hall (additional performances) A total of 9 performances. If the timing of their debut four months is unusual, the scale of their debut is also out of the ordinary. Just how shocking their appearance was can be clearly seen from the schedule. Among them, the one that reigns as a symbol is the super masterpiece “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, which is said to be the most important record in recording history, but this work is the subsequent West Japan edition. These were the 6th and 8th concerts. This work was recorded in two such performances. Although it was recorded at the same venue on a different day, the sound characteristics are different, but overall it can be said that it is a vintage recording with plenty of direct feel. If I were to point out the difference, “June 25th (DISC 1)” has a clear sound with a very thick core piercing through the transparent atmosphere, and “June 27th (DISC 2)” has the band working together as one. A powerful sound that rushes forward. While both absorbed the enthusiasm of the audience, the powerful performance sounds and vocals overwhelmed everything. Still, it has a wonderful sound that doesn’t collapse even at its peak. With such vivid sound, the performance depicts a scorching and passionate performance that makes the debut work “Flame no Uze” explode with stage tension. Basically, it follows the super masterpiece “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, but it is not completely the same, so let’s organize it while comparing. Flame Fuse (10 songs)・On Fire/I’m the One/Runnin’ With The Devil/Atomic Punk/Little Dreamer/Feel Your Love Tonight/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love/Ice Cream Man/Eruption/You Really Got Me Legendary Bomber (3 songs)・Somebody Get Me A Doctor/D.O.A./Bottoms Up! Others (2 songs)・Down in Flames/Summertime Blues (★: June 27th only) *Note: “★” The mark is a song that cannot be heard even on the ultimate masterpiece “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”. …and it looks like this. The centerpiece of the set was, of course, “Flame no Tuse,” and all of its 11 songs were performed except for “Jamie’s Cryin’.” New songs and unreleased rare songs from “The Legendary Bomber” are interspersed there. Most of them could be experienced in “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, but the exception is Eddie Cochran’s cover “Summertime Blues”. From before his debut until the Sammy Hagar era, he occasionally performed, but the frequency was extremely low, and it is said that he performed less than 20 times in his career. It is said that it was only performed in Japan during the first performance in Osaka, and you can experience one of those performances on DISC 2 of this work. The Japanese people were enthusiastic when they witnessed the brutal guitar work and the scorching hard rock that was performed on the ground with “a live version of the flame fuse”. After this, they came to Japan many times over the past 35 years, but this was their first visit, filled with fresh surprises and enthusiasm both on and off stage. This is a cultural heritage album that vacuum-packs the entire two performances. The “first” work is “DEFINITIVE TOKYO’S ON FIRE,” but this work is the perfect one to take a step forward from there, as you can also listen to the extremely valuable “Summertime Blues.” Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan 25th & 27th June 1978 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND Disc 1(77:00) Live at Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan 25th June 1978 1.
