Description
What is engraved on this work is “Mansfield performance on August 1, 2015”. It is the super best audience recording. I’ve been calling him a “Japanese taper” for a while now, but this person is not just a person. In fact, he is said to be one of the best in modern Japan, and has made the Tokyo performances of artists such as MR.BIG and NIGHTRANGER a masterpiece with their superb sound in recent years. It was recorded by such a master craftsman across the ocean. In fact, the sound of this work is so amazing that mere rarity value is out of the question. Although it is true that it was recorded from the audience seats due to the positional relationship between the cheers and the band sound (which is natural since it was given to us by the recorder himself in the first place), the core thickness, clarity, and direct feeling of the musical sound are like a soundboard. The sound of Eddie’s virtuosity is so impressive that you will be moved by just the sound. The dynamic rhythm of the audience makes you feel like it’s the real thing, but the ability to keep it in a clean sound without mixing it up is truly Japanese. It is one of the masterpieces that can be called a masterpiece of the “2015 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR” from a global perspective. The last tour of the glorious VAN HALEN is preserved forever with such a sound. I’ll leave the organization of the set to the main commentary, but since it’s the last tour, there are a lot of rare songs that are delicious. Perhaps because the reunion has been going on for a long time, spice songs are placed everywhere, and from the opening, “Light Up The Sky” for the first time in 35 years jumps out, and “Feel Your Love Tonight” from the debut album is also performed. (I also played with Gary Cherone, but I haven’t been with Dave since 1981). “In A Simple Rhyme” was also performed with “Growth” like the album, and “Drop Dead Legs” and “Dirty Movies”, which were played live for the first time on the last tour, were also featured. The former was also the highlight of the “2015 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR” whose rehearsal video was aired as an advertisement just before the tour. To be able to listen to such a rare song with such a great sound… It was valuable at the time, but now that this tour has been confirmed as the last, its shine has only increased. And the performance that weaves such a set feels even more vivid because it is a live album with only sound. Although there are age-related changes, Dave’s vocals are full of motivation, and Eddie’s playing is also hot. Wolfgang Van Halen’s technical bass is also very clear. Also worth listening to is “Dave’s Rap,” where Dave brings out his acoustic guitar and blues harp. It’s a solo corner where he speaks and sings spontaneously from day to day, and on this day, he listens to the atmosphere of the song, including “Stay Frosty” from his final studio album “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH”. And how cool is “Ice Cream Man” falling into the snow! This is a cover song that Dave has remade as a solo song, but here he goes wild on the harp and competes with Eddie. It’s a moment when all the years we were apart are blown away in an instant, and we feel that the time between us was not wasted. This is a masterpiece captured by a great recording artist who is a big fan of Eddie when he went to the United States. I never expected this tour to be the last of Eddie’s life. This is a superb live album that contains the brilliance of the passionate performance and the weight of fate.
