Description
A 3-disc set of Van Halen’s early live performances before their official debut, recorded on a soundboard. First of all, Disc 1 includes high-quality stereo line recordings of two performances (February and April) performed as a local band at a weekend dance party at Pasadena High School in 1975. The only original songs are I Wanna Be Your Lover, Take Your Whiskey Home, and I Live With Fools, and the rest are cover songs. Still, Eddie’s outstanding guitar playing, which can be heard clearly and directly in the line recording, is the best, boasting a quality that you can enjoy over and over again. Deep Purple’s Maybe I’m A Leo is sure to please fans of the playing style. Budgie’s In For The Kill, Spooky Tooth’s Wildfire, ZZ Top’s Brown Sugar, and Sugarloaf’s Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You are valuable performances that can only be heard on this recording, and are a must-have for fans. At the end, there are bonus songs House Of Pain and Runnin’ With The Devil from the Gene Simmons demo recorded in the fall of 1976. Discs 2 & 3 include a high-quality line recording of Norwalk’s live performance at the Golden West Ballroom on May 9, one year after the Pasadena High School sound source. The number of original songs in the set has increased significantly, and familiar numbers that will later be included on albums are also appearing here and there. (Show Your Love is I’m The One) Although this is a monaural soundboard recording, the sound quality is excellent and you can listen to it without stress. In the past, only 15 songs were recorded on Disc 2, but a few years ago, the second half of the show, which mainly consisted of cover songs, was discovered and became available for listening. The first half, full of original songs, is great, but the second half is also full of fun, as you can listen to Kiss’ Rock And Roll All Nite, Aerosmith’s Sweet Emotion, Bad Company’s Live For The Music, etc. Dave’s lively vocals are also wonderful, but everyone will listen to Eddie’s play, which shows off his tremendous speed in various places. Hots On For Nowhere, which is played with the introduction “From Zeppelin’s new work”, is a valuable cover that can only be heard at this live performance. The bonus track includes an additional interview with a local radio station at the time. The best version that carefully removes most of the noise that was found in the original sound source. This is a 3-disc set that everyone from beginners to enthusiasts can enjoy.
