Description

In 2012, VAN HALEN released “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH”, which was his last studio album in 14 years, and embarked on a long-awaited world tour. At that time, the masterpiece recording series that was a real-time report of the shocking tour will be specially reprinted. This time, even though it’s the beginning of the tour, three delicious works are being released at the same time as the engine gradually warms up and goes into full force! The “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH” series is the latest report that has been delivered with a set of masterpiece sound sources that appeared in the very early days of “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR”. This series was created in response to the request of “I want to hear the tour for the latest album as soon as possible!” The theme was “As many performances as possible, as soon as possible.” The best ones were chosen from the recordings that came out one after another, and they boasted a sound quality that was far different from the average CD title. This work is the fifth in a series of such masterpieces of field reports. This work includes two performances: “March 15, 2012: Montreal performance” and “March 17, 2012: Toronto performance.” This is a 4-disc set with 2 full recordings of each. The position of the “North American” leg, which was the stage for the entire series, will be explained in the simultaneously released “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH I?”, but here we will organize the relationship between each work in the series with a more detailed schedule. ・January 5th – February 8th: Warm-up (3 performances) [“A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH” released on February 7th] ・February 18th: Louisville performance ← *“I (Disc 1-2)” “II (Disc 1-2)”・February 20th: Auburn Hills performance ←※“I(Disc 3-4)” “II (DVD)”・February 22nd: Indianapolis performance ←※“I( Disc 5-6)” ・February 24th: Chicago performance ←* “II (Disc 3-4)” ・February 28th + March 1st: New York (2 performances) ・March 3rd: Uncasville performance ←※ “III (Disc 1-2)” ・March 5: Philadelphia performance ← * “III (Disc 3-4)” ・March 9: Buffalo performance ← * “IV (Disc 1-2)” ・3 March 11th: Boston performance ← *”IV (Disc 3-4)” March 13th: Manchester performance ← *”IV (Disc 5-6)” ★March 15th: Montreal performance ←★Disc 1 of this work -2★★March 17th: Toronto Performance ←★Disc 3-4★・March 21st: Ottawa Performance・March 24th: Atlantic City Performance ←*“VI (Disc 1-2)”・3 March 26th: Reading performance ← *“VI (Disc 3-4)” March 28th: Washington D.C. performance ← *“VI (Disc 5-6)” March 30th: Pittsburgh performance April 1st : Rosemont performance April 10th – June 26th: North America #2 (31 performances) This is VAN HALEN in 2012. This series features the album immediately after its release, and the above schedule is a detailed description of each performance of that “North America #1” leg. As you can see, you can understand that most of the shows were held in the 6 series series. Under such circumstances, the two performances of this work are the 12th and 13th performances after the halfway point of “North America #1″. Of course, even though it was a turning point, “North America #1” itself was the first half, so it was the most delicious timing when the band finally started running at full speed. This work is also one of the few Canadian performances. It was the “fifth volume in the series” and was also known as the “Canadian edition of the series.” This work, which records these two performances, is a set of unique masterpiece recordings. Following the explanation of “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH I?”, if we compare individuality into three categories (clear type/dynamic type/mood type), “March 15th Montreal performance (DISC 1-2)” will be classified as “clear”. “A close mood type” and “March 17th Toronto performance (DISC 3-4)” is a “typical dynamic type.” First of all, “Montreal Performance (DISC 1-2)”, this is a mood type with an atmosphere that breathes in the sound of the hall, but that atmosphere is very transparent, and the performance sound that penetrates through the center of the drum. The vocals are extraordinarily vivid. In fact, there are some scenes in the beginning where the sense of stability is a bit lacking, but it’s strangely bright and sparkling, and the bass has a solid attack sound without any cloudy elements. It’s a sound that has an indescribable Kagaya period. On the other hand, “Toronto performance (DISC 3-4)” is an easy-to-understand “famous recording”. The core is strong, the details and balance are well-proportioned, and the sound is glossy and beautiful. If you listen to “Montreal Performance (DISC 1-2)” in succession, you may feel that it lacks clarity, but rather the dynamism is wonderful because of its thickness. In fact, as you get used to the sound, you realize that the details are not hidden, but rather natural. Of course, if you start listening from “Toronto Performance (DISC 3-4)”, it is a great recording without any complaints. The show drawn with such a sound is full of the flavor of “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR”, which is worth listening to every single day. Let’s organize it in the same format so that we can compare it with the other two releases released at the same time. Fixed songs (18 songs + α) ・Flame fuse: Runnin’ With The Devil/You Really Got Me/Ice Cream Man/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love ・Legendary bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor/Dance The Night Away/Women In Love/Beautiful Girls・Dark Law: Everybody Wants Some!!・Martial Law: Unchained・Diver Down: (Oh) Pretty Woman・1984: I’ll Wait/Hot For Teacher/Panama/Jump・A・Different Kinds of Truth: She’s The Woman/Tattoo/China Town Daily Songs (6 songs) Legendary Bomber: Outta Love Again (★: March 15th only in Montreal) Dark Law: Romeo Delight (・Martial Law: Hear About It Later ・Diver Down: The Full Bug (★: Toronto only, March 17th) ・1984: Girl Gone Bad (★: Toronto only, March 17th)・A・Different Kind of Truth: The Trouble With Never (★) *: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the official live album “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT”. …and it looks like this. The “+α” added to “fixed songs” refers to guitar solos. It’s too diverse of a solo to simply call it “Eruption,” so it’s excluded from the song count. Around this time, the pole position was fixed at “Unchained”, although the song combination changed daily. The typical image of the so-called “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR” has solidified. And the fact that it has become more solidified also means that the skill of the performance has improved. Dave, who has great ups and downs depending on the day, is easily getting away with it. Furthermore, what is delicious about this work is the on-site spectacle in Canada. No, it’s not that it’s because it’s Canada… but in this work, the scenes that come to mind when you close your eyes feel like they’re in another dimension. Especially “Montreal Performance (DISC 1-2)”. It’s a strange recording with no up-close voices, but the loud cheers from the stands in the distance are roaring loudly. The sense of distance and being surrounded by the audience is as if you were standing on the mound of Tokyo Dome, basking in the cheers of the crowd. Of course, VAN HALEN was supposed to be the main character on set, but it felt amazing as if he were the star himself. Moreover, the loud cheers writhe freely in sync with the famous songs. It’s a very unique experience that makes you feel like you’ve wandered into a wonderland. “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR” has changed forever depending on the songs and sounds that change daily, and the band’s condition. This is a unique live set that allows you to enjoy the Canadian version in its entirety. Big V’s enthusiastic performances have become even more aggressive during their daily shows.
