In 1977, VAN HALEN signed a long-awaited professional contract with Warner Brothers and was actively playing gigs with the aim of making his world debut. A superb live album that conveys the scene and includes extremely rare and unreleased songs is now available. What is infused into this work is “August 1, 1977 Valencia performance”. This is an audience recording of a show held at the California amusement park “Six Flags Magic Mountain.” The biggest point of this work is the extremely rare initial live performance, but the sound that conveys it is also wonderful. What surprises me most is the strength of the active core. As expected, I don’t know much about the situation at the amusement park venue, but I wonder if it’s a horribly narrow box or an open space with no walls or ceilings. Anyway, I can’t feel the echo component, and the powerful performance comes close to my eyes. Moreover, the master’s freshness is excellent. Although it is a vintage recording, there is no distortion or distortion due to dubbing marks, and the precious atmosphere of the scene is blown out from the speakers with freshness. And, this work is one that updates the highest peak of such famous recordings. Even if the recording itself is good in the original sound, the balance of each range is not good, probably because of the sound output. It felt like the highs and lows were emphasized. Therefore, in this work, we adjusted the pitch accurately and also cleaned up the balance and sound. With a more natural texture, we have recreated the sound that the band would have originally produced as much as possible. And the show drawn with that sound is extremely rare. When it comes to VAN HALEN before their debut, there are two extremes: a cover live of famous songs or a show full of rare original songs, but this work is the latter. There are plenty of original songs that will be included in later masterpieces and unknown masterpieces that remain unreleased. Furthermore, a valuable demo is also included as a bonus after the live show, so let’s organize it together. The intro of “No More Waiting”, which is performed live, has been used for “Take Me Back (Deja Vu)” of “BALANCE”, but “One More Time” and “Angel Eyes” are still unreleased. This is an extremely rare song that can’t be heard even on the extremely popular definitive album “THE DEFINITIVE DEMOS 1976-1977.” Especially interesting is “Angel Eyes.” This song was considered for inclusion in the “VAN HALEN II” session, but ended up being shelved because it didn’t fit the album’s color scheme, so it has a high level of perfection. And of course it was no surprise that it was rejected. Actually, it’s an acoustic ballad (!) sung softly by Dave. This is a very rare song because Dave rarely sings ballads either in VAN HALEN or solo.
