Description

The ultra-premium soundboard series, leaked by insiders and featuring hidden treasures, has landed in South America and continues to uncover more and more treasures. Now, the latest installment, the Brazil edition, has arrived! This release captures the “January 21, 1983 São Paulo concert,” a stereo soundboard recording. Those who have taken the time to read this article will know that a historic event has occurred in the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” collection. A man named “Roy,” who was the band’s engineer at the time, has been unearthing masters recorded directly from the mixing console one after another. This is the biggest soundboard rush in Van Halen history… no, the biggest in rock archive history. The Venezuela edition, “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD,” was a great success recently, and this is the second installment from South America. So, as usual, let’s organize the collection by looking at an overview of their activities at the time and then get to the point of this release’s place. 1982: April 14th – “DIVER DOWN” released; July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ← *8 works; September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 shows) ← *4 works; October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ← *3 works 1983: Date unknown – “REHEARSALS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”; January 14th – February 12th: South America (15 shows) ← ★HERE★; May 29th: US festival appearance This is Van Halen during the “DIVER DOWN” era. In 1982 alone, 15 soundboard albums were released. Even in 1983, the tour rehearsal album “REHEARSALS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 839)” appeared, making it truly a soundboard gold rush. And the South American tour also started with the recent release of “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD”. Let’s take a closer look at the schedule: Details of “South America” - January 14th: Caracas performance * January 15th “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD” * January 16th “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (partial)” * January 21st: São Paulo performance ←★This work★ – January 22nd: São Paulo performance – January 23rd: São Paulo performance – January 25th-27th: Rio de Janeiro (3 performances) – January 28th-February 1st: Porto Alegre (3 performances) – February 5th: Uruguay performance – February 11th-12th: Argentina (2 performances)…and so on. Shows were also held in Venezuela (Caracas), Uruguay, and Argentina, but the main focus was the major country of Brazil. A large-scale tour consisting of 3 cities x 3 shows = 9 shows was held, and the São Paulo performance featured in this release was the first show of the tour. This recording of that show is, as always, a top-notch soundboard recording. The São Paulo opening night is famous for having a pro-shot recording, but this is something entirely different. It’s a newly unearthed soundboard recording that is incomparable to the rough, overdubbed sound of the pro-shot recording. Not only is there no roar of the crowd, as is typical of a direct connection to the mixing console, but there is absolutely no degradation in every single note. It has an otherworldly quality, as if the instruments themselves are vibrating inside your skull. Recorded on this superb newly unearthed master is a scorching hot stage performance where the band, having gained experience, is finally showing their true potential. You can hear the end of the show, which was not included in the previous release, “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD,” but there are also cuts (as usual). Let’s summarize the contents here: Diver Down (5 songs) – The Full Bug / Cathedral / Secrets / Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman Others (10 songs + α) – The Fuse of Fire: Runnin’ With the Devil / Runnin’ With the Devil / Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love (★) / You Really Got Me (Happy Trails) (★) – The Legendary Bomber: Dance the Night Away / Somebody Get Me A Doctor (I’m So Glad) / Bottoms Up! (★) – Others: Romeo Delight / Unchained / Mean Street (*) / Everybody Wants Some!! *Note: “★” indicates songs that were not available on the previous album ‘CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD’. “*” indicates songs that were not in the 1982 series. The flow of “Dance the Night Away” and “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” being played in the first half is refreshing, unlike usual. While it’s a shame that some of the show’s highlights, the rare tracks “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” and “Heartbreak Hotel,” are missing (!), the sheer pleasure of listening to approximately 79 minutes of Van Halen’s live performance in their prime is priceless. This newly unearthed soundboard album captures the iconic opening night of their only South American tour, pouring that historic live performance into your brain. The sound quality is on a completely different level from pro-shot audio. “January 21, 1983, Sao Paulo performance.” This is a stereo soundboard recording. This is a completely new, never-before-seen soundboard recording, entirely separate from the pro-shot audio of the day, and is incomparably superior to the rough, overdubbed pro-shot audio. Not only is there no crowd noise, as is typical of a direct-connection recording, but every single note is completely free of degradation, creating an otherworldly feeling as if the instruments themselves are vibrating inside your skull. This is a new masterpiece that pours a historic live performance into your brain. (78:31) 1. Intro 2. Romeo Delight 3. Unchained 4. Drum Solo 5. The Full Bug 6. Runnin’ With The Devil 7.
