Description
VAN HALEN’s major debut rewrote the history of rock guitar overnight. Just four months later, a shocking live album was newly excavated from their legendary first visit to Japan. This work contains the performance “June 24, 1978: Nagoya City Public Hall”. It is a super real audience recording. Our shop has archived this historic Japan tour with many masterpiece live albums. First of all, let’s look back on the legendary tour once again, with the meaning of organizing the collection. ・June 17th + 19th: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall “ERUPTION IN TOKYO” ・June 21st: Nakano Sun Plaza ・June 22nd: Nakano Sun Plaza “TOKYO’S ON FIRE” ・June 24th: Nagoya City Public Hall [This work] ・June 25th + 27th: Osaka Festival Hall ・June 26th: Kyoto Kaikan ・June 28th: Osaka Expo Hall (additional performance) All 9 performances. Up until now, all performances have been in Tokyo, including the historic masterpiece “TOKYO’S ON FIRE”. This work is the Nagoya performance, which will be released for the first time. The greatest attraction of this work is the Nagoya show itself, which you will hear for the first time, but the sound that conveys it is also great. It does not reach “TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, which is synonymous with miracle recording, but it is far from the so-called “common sense of precious sound sources”. What is most wonderful is the fierce direct feeling. There is no doubt that it is an audience recording only because it is an original cassette brought from a unique route, but the distance is not felt at all, and it is on if you turn it on. In fact, it is so tremendous that the bass sometimes overpeaks, but the vocals, chorus, and the essential guitar are super clear and super neat. If the picking nuance is vivid, the slight creaking of the arm is vivid. It is a sound so close that you can see your hands and see the fuse blowing up the fire in front of you. What’s even more surprising is the unusual lack of audience noise. Of course, the handclaps and cheers and whistles between songs are absorbed, but they are far from the outline and are completely drowned out by the rough-rope-like performance sounds and singing. Combined with the balance and freshness unique to the original master, you can immerse yourself in the show with a direct connection like an FM sound source. Moreover, it is an incredible recording that even improves the sound as the show progresses. A show that roars with such a sound is a new legend that you can’t miss even a single sound. The set is based on the Tokyo performance, and unfortunately the beginning of “Eruption” is missing due to the tape change, and the previous “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” is also not included. However, other than that, every moment is filled with fierce rock that is so intense that it’s impossible to miss it, and the unreleased song “Down In Flames” is perfect. In fact, even the MC is a highlight. After finishing the opening song “On Fire”, he shouted “Oh, it’s going to be okay, come Oooooon!”, and after “Runnin’ With The Devil”, he said “I’m from Tokyo. Nagoya is the rock and roll capital of the world”. He probably said the same thing all over the world, but how random… David Lee Roth is always a yankee, but he is thoroughly unconventional and unstoppable. His scat in “Ice Cream Man” is also in top form. He scatters plenty of the momentum of an invincible fleet. It’s too harsh and intense. After all, VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan was legendary. This is a masterpiece that once again confronts us with such an obvious fact. It’s unfortunate that there are cuts to the tape changes, but there’s no point in asking for something that doesn’t exist. This is a newly excavated album that allows you to experience the shock of your first visit to Japan and the shock of meeting “TOKYO’S ON FIRE” at another show.
