This is a coupling of audio and video recording of a special gig at the Apollo Theater in New York on June 11th, which was realized by a New York radio station as part of the 2018 “eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE TOUR 2018” North American tour. First of all, the CD is a complete recording of 91 minutes of stereo soundboard sound from the broadcast master. First of all, this day was not a regular concert, but a special performance held only for invited guests and contest winners, and the performance was broadcast on the digital radio station SiriusXM, so this is a soundboard album based on that on-air source. Moreover, “Red Flag Day”, which was cut from the broadcast, is also completely complete by complementing it with the best audience source, and of course the quality of the entire work is at a level that can be officially released as it is. And because it was a special live performance, the set was based on the regular tour, but was significantly changed. The show started with three consecutive songs from “BOY”: “I Will Follow”, “The Electric Co.”, and “Out of Control”. The two songs other than “I Will Follow” were specially set for this day. After that, they played a lot of songs that were not played on the regular tour, including new songs and representative songs, and 8 out of the 18 songs were special numbers only for this day, such as “Angel Of Harlem”, “When Love Comes To Town”, “Stuck In A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of”, and “Every Breaking Wave”. In particular, “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” from the encore “ACHTUNG BABY” has hardly been played in recent years. What’s even more surprising is the special guest, the Sun Ra Orchestra, a band that inherits the will of the spiritual jazz great Sun Ra, who joined the horn section on four songs from “Angel Of Harlem” to “Stuck In A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of”, performing a gorgeous co-starring ensemble. In addition, a DVD of the day’s performance, edited with various audience footage, is included. This was produced by an overseas enthusiast, and is a multi-camera edit that combines numerous audience shots using professional equipment, and the sound is also fully matrixed with the soundboard sound source of the CD. There are many cuts that can be switched in one phrase or several bars, and the level is such that it looks like a professional shot. In particular, when the curtain rises with the start of “Angel of Harlem” and the Sun Ra Orchestra appears, it is cool enough to give you goosebumps, and this limited collector’s edition allows you to enjoy this special night with sound and video.
