Two high-quality soundboard recordings of early U2. Disc 1 contains a complete 69-minute recording of all 19 songs from the 4th Leg North American tour (3/3-5/31) during the release of “Boy” in 1981, including the performance at California Hall in San Francisco on May 15th. At the end of the first full-scale tour titled “The Boy Tour”, a set was set up that started with The Ocean and ended with the same song, and all of the numbers that symbolize this period, consisting of “Boy” and single songs, are worth listening to. The minimal band sound with a vivid texture conveys the charm of early U2 more directly than the album. The instrumental Things To Make And Do recorded on the B-side of the single “A Day Without Me” is a rare opportunity to hear it only during this period. It is an interesting hook in the middle of the entire live performance. The sound quality is excellent, so even beginners can enjoy it. Instead, Disc 2 contains 18 songs from the 2nd Leg North American tour (11/13-12/13) during the 1981 “October” release period, including a performance at the Orpheum Theater in Boston on November 14th, which lasted for about 65 minutes. The entire album is recorded with high-quality line recording with excellent sound separation. With the addition of songs from “October” such as Gloria and Fire, the range of songs has expanded, and the scale of the performance has increased accordingly. The performance is wonderful, with a sense of momentum that makes you feel like you’re heading straight for the updraft, and every song is worth listening to. The flow of October to Stories For Boys, which feels like a complete change of scene, also sounds fresh. Like the May performance take, this is a must-have album for fans who want to enjoy the hot performance unique to the early days throughout the entire album. Both the content and sound quality are excellent, and it is a recommended album that even beginners can enjoy.
