Description
The Tony Bennett / Bill Evans Album, released in 1975, was a dream collaboration between Evans and Tony Bennett, and it caused a great response not only among jazz fans but also among pop fans around the world at the time. This is a master quality, pro-shot video of a special TV program that the two recorded at a studio in the Canadian CBC:TV network in the fall of 1976. The high-quality sound of the color film, which was recently unearthed, is free of unnecessary reverberation, and the quality of the video is almost the same as when it was broadcast. First of all, it seems that the recording was around the time when they were recording their second duo album, “TOGETHER AGAIN,” following the well-received album from the previous year, so the album features seven jazz standards from both albums. And the performance is better than the studio recording throughout the whole film, especially Bennett’s vocals are more powerful, and songs like “When In Rome” start slowly on the album, but here he starts singing at an up-tempo and sings it all in one go, and the lightness of Evans’ piano, from “Some Other Time” to “A Child Is Born”, is enchanting with the lyricism of his piano touch. These are performed in a studio with only two people under simple lighting, and there are also plenty of Evans solos on “Make Someone Happy”, and at the opening and closing of the program, you can hear Evans’ solo on “The Bad And The Beautiful”, which was included in “TOGETHER AGAIN”. Although the recording time is short at 28 minutes, everything is a must-see. As a coupling, this video source is partially mastered and a sound source CD with fine noise cut is also added, making this a must-have collector’s edition for all jazz fans. 01.
