Description
A miraculous title that will make hardcore fans tear up is here, a direct CD version of the private cassette owned by the late Phil Lynott. This is an astonishing piece that captures the process of creating the Phil Lynott-produced version of THIN LIZZY’s last single, THE SUN GOES DOWN, which was only recorded on the B-side of the British 12-inch single, in 16 takes of the highest quality demo. For deep fans who love Phil Lynott’s work and miss him, this title is too heavy and shocking. Starting with Phil’s own drum machine play, the bass and chorus parts are layered, and test recordings of the vocal line are recorded one by one, and you can hear how Phil’s emotional sound world is embodied in a realistic high-quality line recording. This is an amazing collection of takes that gives you a spiritual feeling, as if Phil’s thoughts and feelings are carried over to each and every sound. When you hear a collection of demos of the same song, you tend to imagine a boring compilation with no clear differences, but this title is in a completely different league. There are not many titles that record in detail how one genius artist vividly creates a song from the basic parts. At the end of THIN LIZZY, Phil felt tired of living as a hero in the rock world, but it is only at this time that he was able to touch the truly personal sound that he was able to create again after 21 years. This CD is composed of two cassettes owned by Phil, and the first tape contains 12 takes that allow you to listen to the real production of the basic parts of the song, and the other tape contains four versions featuring John Sykes’ acoustic guitar. These versions, which are two minutes longer than the official version, contain long acoustic playing by Sykes that has not been officially released in ultra-high sound quality. For Phil Lynott and John Sykes fans, this is the most important title, which is nothing but a surprise. Original Demos various mixes & outtaakes totally different from the official version 16 versions of The Sun Goes Down Never released or heard before STEREO SBD (from Original Masters) ★Below is a detailed explanation of each track. Version 1: (finished version) The first track on the cassette contains the final version used officially, but perhaps because Phil played this take many times, the sound deteriorates halfway through, which gives it a raw feel. Version 2: (rhythm machine) Contains the basic track of a song played only with a rhythm machine. Version 3: (rhythm machine & bass) Although it is still rough, a raw bass play is overlaid, showing the direction of the song. Version 4: (with guitar & chorus vocals) The basic guitar chords are overlaid, and only the chorus is overlaid. Version 5: (with vocal melody) A vocal line with a lot of reverb is layered. Version 6: (with vocal melody and acoustic solo in the second half) Sykes’ acoustic playing is layered in the second half, but it seems that he is still experimenting with the arrangement. Version 7: (rhythm machine) Only a variety of rhythm tracks are included. Version 8: (test take) Starts with an introductory chorus. Experimental punch-ins and outs can be heard. Version 9: (test take) The rhythm and melody do not match at first. Direct vocal processing can be heard. Vocals that are not included in the official version can also be heard. Version 10/11/12: (test take) Starts halfway through. Vocal processing is nearing completion. VERSION 13/14/15/16: (John Sykes acoustic playing) Includes a voice count. You can hear a lot of Sykes’ playing that is not included in the official version.
