Description
The Who’s 1969 Woodstock Festival performance, a hallmark of their “Tommy,” has been updated with cuts from the previously released “Complete Woodstock 1969”! The sound has also been completely overhauled, resulting in the ultimate Woodstock performance! This is a must-have album! This is not just a reissue, but an astonishing update! Woodstock is The Who’s greatest performance of 1969, following the release of their landmark album “Tommy.” It’s still fresh in our memory that the masterpiece “Complete Woodstock 1969,” capturing the entire experience in perfect sound quality, finally sold out. It’s unacceptable that such a definitive performance, boasting the highest quality multi-track recording, could be cut off from stable supply. It’s become such a huge bestseller. Meanwhile, currently available Woodstock live recordings on other labels suffer from excessive equalization, such as “Smile EQ,” significantly altering and degrading the sound, especially Keith’s drumming. This presents a perfect opportunity to apply the concept of remixing and remastering with cutting-edge AI technology, which has proven extremely effective on various live recordings by The Who, to Woodstock. So, this week, we’re releasing not just a reissue, but a truly reborn Woodstock! Despite long-awaited hopes, The Who have yet to release a complete Woodstock album. When it finally arrived in 2019, it was included in a pricey box set that included the entire event, making it far from readily available. “COMPLETE WOODSTOCK 1969” was released based on the parts included in that box set. While the sound quality was impeccable, perhaps to ensure consistency with the complete set, looking back, it seems like the mix was subdued and demure for a Who live recording. As those who witnessed it unanimously attest, the Who’s live shows at the time were held before a fully-fledged PA system, which made the sound from the stage even more intense. As proof of this, both Pete and Roger suffered hearing loss, but the 2019 mix undeniably toned down the impact of the thunderous live performance. So, once again, using the latest AI technology—which was used to great effect on “LIVE AT LEEDS: 55TH ANNIVERSARY ULTIMATE EDITION” and “DEFINITIVE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 1970: LONGEST & RESTORED EDITION”—we’ve remixed and remastered the recording to recreate the overwhelmingly razzle-dazzle feel of a Who live performance in 1969. The inspiration for this remix was the powerful mixes of “Sparks” and “Pinball Wizard” from the soundtrack of the film “THE KID ARE ALRIGHT.” Using the latest AI technology, the recording was first broken down into 10 tracks: six drum parts (crash, ride, hi-hat, kick, snare, toms), guitar, bass, vocals, and cheers. Each track was then remastered and mixed down. First and foremost, you’ll be struck by the thick sound of Pete’s Gibson SG. This alone puts it on another level from the previously released “Complete Woodstock 1969.” Even more impressive is Keith’s drumming, as mentioned at the beginning! His unparalleled power and dynamic drumming have been reborn with a tighter, more vivid sound than ever before! And the highlight is the extended recording, including Abbie Hoffman’s speech before the Who’s appearance, which was cut from “Complete Woodstock 1969,” as well as the announcement after the show. Even the contours of the legendary moment when Pete kicks Hoffman out after he rejoins the stage during the live performance are heard with greater intensity, a testament to the sound production. This not only improves the sound quality, but also dramatically enhances the reproduction of this legendary night as a documentary.
