Description
Recorded by Master Dan Lampinski of the Boston performance on March 9, the first day of the legendary 1976 North American tour, in which Keith Moon collapsed on stage due to a drug overdose and the concert was canceled after two songs. I can’t explain somehow (at the beginning, the noise from the PA is overflowing from the master), but in the second song, Substitute, the rhythm gradually becomes erratic, and the performance ends up being undefined. After the performance, Roger became the MC and said, “There’s a problem…Keith Moon is in a serious situation.” Conversations such as “He’s fallen down” and “The drummer’s gone” can be heard from the audience, and a noisy mood fills the venue. Around 2 minutes after the show ended, the tape ran out and Roger reappeared. Keith Moon explains that he has a bad case of the flu and can no longer perform, and that he will discuss it with the promoter and hold a rescheduled concert. The part where Roger gives a desperate explanation in front of a disappointed audience is a great document. From the 4th track, WHO’s April 1st performance, which returned to Boston Garden, is recorded from the master Dan Lampinski, who also appears for the first time. The sound quality is very good for both performances, and the overall balance is also very good. The powerful and powerful I Can’t Explain and Substitute, which are completely different from the March 9th take, are truly exquisite, and you can enjoy the raging performance of WHO in peak condition. The performance of the third song, My Wife, was so amazing that the audience couldn’t help but cheer, “It’s So Spectacular!” Keith Moon’s drums are recorded very clearly, as if he’s trying to recover his reputation (I guess he doesn’t think he’s trying to do that), but it’s definitely worth listening to. The sound, which has a stable and excellent sense of separation that makes you think of Rampinski, is overwhelming from beginning to end, and it’s great to be able to enjoy two performances that will remain in the Who’s live history with this sound. After Baba O’Riley’s performance was over due to the wonderful performance and the excitement of the audience, Roger said with satisfaction, “This was the loudest cheer of this tour.” Squeeze Box’s sharp drumming by Keith pulls the whole thing together, allowing you to enjoy an exhilarating performance. Following Keith’s MC, Behind Blue Eyes started with a perfect mood. Dreaming From The Waist also includes Keith’s drums with the best sound, and you can enjoy the punchy and crisp performance with the ideal sound image. The base running in the second half is also clearly recorded. Magic Bus, which lasts 11 minutes and 30 seconds, is also recorded uncut. The “Tommy” part in the second half of the show is also included without a cut! Like the first half, the sound image is clear from beginning to end without any hesitation, and as an audience recording version of the 1976 spring tour, the show is recorded with a sound that can be declared the highest peak. Unfortunately, the Lampinski sound source ends here, and the encore parts of Summertime Blues/My Generation/Join Together Blues/Won’t Get Fooled Again are completely recorded by connecting them from the already released version “Behind Blue Eyes” which was recorded on the same day. I’m doing it. Although the sound quality is slightly inferior to the Lampinski version, this is also captured with high enough sound quality considering the era, making it the definitive version of the Boston performance that is a must-have for fans. (In the middle of Join Together Blues, you can hear Pete’s angry voice as he forcibly stops playing.) This is a piece where you can enjoy the best sound of Lumpinski’s two Boston performances in the spring of 1976. Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA.
