Description
Following the highly popular “LIVE 1969”, a two-disc title recording of The Band’s 1970 live performance is now available. First of all, the first one is a live performance at the Hollywood Bowl recorded with an unbelievable high-quality audience recording. This was recorded from RUBBER DUBBER’s LP “LIVE AT HOLYWOOD BOWL 7-10-70″, but it was recorded from the original mint condition LP, played on a turntable for high-end users, and was previously released. We have faithfully reproduced the natural and relaxed sound quality of the original LP on CD, which will keep away any items that were previously used. RUBBER DUBBER’s LP was released from 1970 to 1971, so the quality of the vinyl was limited by the quality of vinyl at the time, and noise was easily included. However, this time, combined with the good conditions, we were able to record with surprising clarity. Originally, this LP title was based on an audience recording recorded with incredible high quality, but when you listen to it again, you will definitely be speechless at the exceptional recording condition. Anyway, in the 1970 audience recording, I think it can be said that it is a miracle that we were able to record with such a high quality and on sound image. Just before the release of their album “Stage Flight”, The Band is not only showing an active attitude by opening their live shows with Shape I’m In, but also changing from their previous rustic sound to footwork. It’s starting to change to a lighter live sound. The fact that the sound is captured firmly with this amazing clear sound can be said to be a truly wonderful recording. And it will be the definitive CD of this LP, which has been known as a classic until now. The second disc contains a live performance held in New York on New Year’s Day, 1970. Compared to Hollywood Bowl, this is a sound image with a sense of distance, but surprisingly, this is a stereo audience recording (Hollywood Bowl is monaural). The expansive sense of realism is unique to stereo recording. This recording is based on a first generation master that I received a copy from a friend who went to see the concert with me that day, and its analog sound quality is very reminiscent of the 1970s. It’s a pleasant listen. In the early stages, there are some sound blurring due to tape deterioration, but after that, it is a recording that captures The Band’s performance with surprising quality. Moreover, although it is the same year, 1970, this is a New Year’s Day live just after the new year, so The Band is still performing a sound based on the idyllic sound of 1969. Despite this, you can see that it has changed since the stage in 1969, even with the hard putter of the opening song “Jemima Surrender”. Still, when you listen to a performance that is suddenly much more relaxed compared to the time at the Hollywood Bowl, you will definitely be surprised at the difference in sound that you will wonder, “How has it changed so much in six months?” What’s more, it is truly valuable to be able to reproduce that spacious sound in stereo recording.
