Description

Hero TANK visited Japan for the first time in 20 years, as if to commemorate NWOBHM’s 40th anniversary, with David Readman from PINK CREAM 69. An original recording packed with the best sound from the scene is now available. What is engraved in this work is the “July 15, 2019: Shinsaibashi SOMA” performance. It is a transcendental audience recording. The biggest point of this work is the extremely high quality sound and the live performance itself which is currently causing great acclaim in various places, but first of all the position of the show. For record-keeping purposes, let’s keep track of the dates of his visit to Japan, which literally happens “once every 20 years.” ・July 13th: Holiday Shinjuk ・July 14th: Holiday Shinjuk ・July 15th: Shinsaibashi SOMA [This work] There were 3 performances in total: 2 in Tokyo and 1 in Osaka. This work is a live album of the final performance, but its quality is tremendous. The person who made it is Mr. “Western Japan’s strongest taper” who is second to none when it comes to recording HR/HM type. He has always produced the best recordings, and has been repeatedly praised as “the sound can only be heard on the soundboard” and “the sound is better than the actual one”, but this work is a masterpiece that further boosts that reputation. There is no sense of distance in the powerful core, and the details are so vivid that you can only imagine that the instrument is right in front of you. Even the snare, which tends to sound like a guest record, feels like zero distance, and the vocals make you wonder, “Isn’t it really a sound board (even though you know it’s an audience)?” What further enhances the sound board feeling is the enthusiasm of the audience. “Shinsaibashi SOMA”, which was the venue, is a small box with a capacity of about 350 people, but even though it is incredibly loud, it is very far away. The feeling of synchronization with the band is definitely that of a closed room in a club, so why does the audience feel so far away? Even the farthest customer should be right there… The show is a scorching show with the best sound that will make you think “??” swirling in your head, and the body odor of NWOBHM that is choking will burn up. Roughly speaking, the set is a live version of “RE-IGNITION”. It was a re-recording album that updated classic songs from the past, but all the songs on the album except for “The War Drags Ever On” were blown away and replaced. They will also perform “That’s What Dreams Are Made Of” from “FILTH HOUNDS OF HADES”. The riffs played out one song after another stir up the feeling of “that TANK is there”. New member David Readman makes this feeling even deeper. Predecessors like Doogie White and ZP Cert were also singers with a metal soul, but their voices made you think, “Oh, TANK!”… On the other hand, the lead man’s wild voice and free-spirited singing style are amazing! In fact, at this show, they are also playing numbers from the Dougie/ZP era such as “Judgement Day,” “War Nation,” and “Make A Little Time,” but they sound much more like TANK than the originals. Of course, I can’t deny that I miss Algy Ward’s voice, but considering Algy’s current state, hiring a lead man is probably the right decision. And, the essential Mick Tucker & Cliff Evans and former SODOM Bobby Stokowski are also amazing. It is not uncommon for veterans who are said to be coming to Japan for the first time in xx years to give a dull performance that there is no sign of watching, but these guys were completely different. It’s as if the 40 years since NWOBHM never happened, and it’s as if the time has passed and it’s burning hot. It is truly a scorching and intense live album. This is a hidden gem of a live album that captures the wonderful “RE-IGNITION” with the explosive tension of the stage and the finest closed room sound. It’s as if you’ve been drinking Viagra at Yunker, and you’ll feel like you’ve never seen a spectacle in a basement.
