Description

The Symphonicity Tour, which accompanied the release of the album “SYMPHONICITIES,” which re-recorded the Police era’s masterpieces and solo masterpieces with an orchestra last summer, began with a North American tour in the summer, a European tour in the fall, and a tour of Asia, Oceania, and South America in 2011. The first day of the tour, January 11th, was a live performance at the Seoul Olympic Gymnasium in Korea, and the first day of the Tokyo Budokan the following week on the 17th, both of which were completely recorded with ultra-high quality audience recordings. The original master, which has never been available among traders, is used. The sound is very close, with a clear, punchy, powerful sound, and also has a quietness to it, making the delicate orchestra stand out even more. Fans will have the illusion of sitting at the front of the arena and enjoying the atmosphere. Sting has only performed in Korea twice in the past (1996 and 2005, two performances each), and at this concert, his first in six years (and only this one performance), the audience welcomed Sting enthusiastically, and Sting responded by giving a great performance despite the cold weather of minus 10 degrees Celsius and snow on the day. There was some noticeable audience noise, but it was hardly noticeable before the heavy orchestra performance. Also, some photos from the day of the performance were used for the artwork, which was a pleasure. Meanwhile, at the first live performance at the Budokan the following week (17th), he also gave a perfect performance, using Japanese as if it were his familiar home ground, interweaving humorous MCs. Both days were very close with super high sound quality, but the Budokan performance was even closer, with almost no barriers, and the sound image was full of directness, allowing you to take a sound shower with your whole body. (Sting’s vocals feel like they’re soaking into your body.) As this is just after the start of the tour in the new year, there are no changes to the setlist, but there are plenty of things to listen to. On both days, Sting changed into a black coat jacket with a red lining for “Moon Over Bourbon Street,” creating a wolf (Dracula) atmosphere, and played the electronic instrument Theremin during the heavy orchestra interlude. (At the Budokan, Sting is called Kyuketsuki in Japanese.) Also, before the end of the first part, Sting MC’d, “Let’s take a break after the next song.” Then he played “Next To You” from ALL I Want Is To Be, repeating part of the chorus of the lyrics, “ALL I Want Is To Be.” He performed that rock with sophisticated musical tones. The fans were ecstatic. Other songs include the delicate “Roxanne,” “Why Should I Cry For You,” the heavy “Russians,” the dynamic and light “This Cowboy Song,” and “Desert Rose,” which have been given new life through carefully calculated arrangements. Sting’s singing ability, who turns 60 this year, is truly perfect and may be even better than when he was in Police. He also has a great voice that can be heard without a microphone. (You can experience this with this sound source.) The Symphonicity Tour, where Sting’s sense of reconstructing the representative songs of Police/Sting with dynamic and delicate symphonic arrangements full of rock sense without making them strangely classical, is shining. This is the latest 2011 release of ultra-high quality sound source that is by far the most complete among the many collaborations between rock and orchestras, and is recommended not only for fans but also for all rock fans.
