Description
The performance in Japan in 1992 was supposed to be wrapped in the glory of the peak of popularity. The first ever original recording that conveys the scene is now available. There are two performances included in this work. This is an audience recording set that captures the entire performance of “January 20th + 22nd, 1992: Nippon Budokan”. After receiving “THE SOUL CAGES”, they came to Japan and the number of live shows increased at once, although the scale was downsized from the fully opened Tokyo Dome. A schedule was set for them to traverse the archipelago with by far the largest number of performances in history. However, when Sting arrived in Japan, he became unwell and more than half of his shows were cancelled. First of all, let’s check the position of this work from the schedule at that time.・January 20th: Nippon Budokan ←★Disc 1-2★ January 21st: Nippon Budokan ・January 22nd: Nippon Budokan ←★Disc 3-4★×January 24th: Yokohama Arena (Cancelled)・January 25th: Yokohama Arena × January 27th: Osaka Castle Hall (Cancelled) × January 28th: Osaka Castle Hall (Cancelled) × January 30th: Hiroshima Sunplaza Hall (Cancelled) ×2 March 1: Kitakyushu General Gymnasium (cancelled) × February 3: Nagoya Rainbow Hall (cancelled) × February 8: Hamamatsu Arena (cancelled) February 10: Sendai City Gymnasium February 12: Tsukisamu Green Dome: A total of 13 performances… has been drastically reduced to 6 performances. Although the show started in Tokyo and Yokohama as scheduled, it was canceled as early as the fourth performance. Afterwards, although he once hoped to return to the front line, he collapsed again and was unable to perform for nearly two weeks. In the end, he finally returned to the stage in Sendai and Sapporo. Cancellations due to poor health are common, but cancellations on such a large scale are unprecedented. Looking at it this way, you can clearly see how an unprecedented disaster it was. Under such circumstances, Nippon Budokan was set for the first three consecutive days. This work is an audience recording recorded on the first and third days. This work is also valuable. It is also the first appearance sound source, but more than that, there are very few recordings when he came to Japan in 1992. I feel like this is natural since there are only a few performances, but doing four performances in the Kanto area is usually enough. However, perhaps because the image of the disaster was bad, few recordings have been unearthed at the time or since, and it is now a dark history in the history of Sting’s visit to Japan. It also serves as a blank area for the collection. This work heals such long-standing dryness with a powerful yet realistic audience recording. Both performances are treasured collections by the same recording artist, and the most wonderful thing about them is their tough core. While giving a slight sense of the sense of space typical of a Budokan, a powerful core pierces straight through the center. In fact, it feels a little rough around the peak (especially DISC 1-2 on the first day), so it can’t be called a “beautiful recording”, but it’s a powerful sound with almost no sense of distance between the performance sound and the singing voice. It can be said that it is sound board class. It is a vivid sound that allows you to clearly enjoy what kind of show the precious 1992 was, including the essential tone of Sting. What is depicted with such direct sound is the truth of the dark history revealed 28 years after the scene. This tour is also left in the official video “THE SOUL CAGES CONCERT”, so let’s organize the sets while comparing them here. THE POLICE (8 songs), Outlands, d’Amour: Roxanne, Shiroi Regatta: Bring On The Night/Walking On The Moon/Message In A Bottle, Zenyatta, Mondatta: Driven To Tears (★)/When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What’s Still Around ・Synchronicity: King Of Pain/Every Breath You Take (★) Solo (12 songs) ・Blue Turtle’s Dream: Fortress Around Your Heart/If You Love Somebody Set Them Free (★)・Nothing Like the Sun: Be Still My Beating Heart (★) / We’ll Be Together (★) / Fragile (3rd day only) ・Soul Cage: All This Time / Jeremiah Blues (Part 1) / Mad About You/Why Should I Cry For You?/The Wild Wild Sea/The Soul Cages/When The Angels Fall Cover (2 songs)/Ain’t No Sunshine (★: Bill Withers)/Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix) ) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard in the official video “THE SOUL CAGES CONCERT”. …and it looks like this. A selection of a wide range of famous songs, including 7 songs from the new album “THE SOUL CAGES”. In particular, “Jeremiah Blues (Part 1),” “The Wild Wild Sea,” and “When The Angels Fall” were only played on this tour, and of course they are the first and last valuable performances in Japan. “Ain’t No Sunshine” is even more catchy. It’s a cover of Bill Withers, who passed away in March of this year, but the audience was a little confused by the unexpected selection of songs, and it was interesting to see how, although the intro erupted with applause, the mood quickly fell silent, wondering, “What song is this?” And what I’m curious about is Sting, who plays such a set. I thought it would be very difficult in the face of a storm of cancellations, but it wasn’t. Of course, the tension is at its peak! It’s far from that, but it’s not an unpleasant struggle to hear either. The encore “Fragile” will be omitted on the first day, but it will be played properly on the third day. Overall, he is calm and singing carefully, and it is a professional show that is hard to imagine that there will be a large-scale cancellation after this. The 1992 Japan tour was infamous for its historic cancellations. However, at the scene, a show was unfolding where Sting showed off his professionalism. A big live set where you can experience that truth on-site. Please take this opportunity to enjoy it to your heart’s content.
