Description
Steve Hackett’s first solo concept album “THE NIGHT SIREN” has also been well received. His latest tour, “GENESIS REVISITED WITH CLASSIC HACKETT 2017”, has arrived with a superb live album. Hackett has been touring recently, fusing GENESIS with his solo career, and the latest version is packed with unexpected collections. I’m curious about the contents, but let’s start with an overview of the tour.・February 14th-March 3rd: North America (13 shows) {“THE NIGHT SIREN” released on March 24th}・March 23rd-April 16th: Europe #1 (19 shows)・April 26th-May 19th: Europe #2 (16 shows in the UK)←★Here★・June 2nd-4th: Europe #3 (7 shows in Eastern Europe)・June 30th-July 8th: Europe #4 (5 shows in Southern Europe)・July 28th-August 6th: Oceania (5 shows) This is the total of 65 shows on the latest tour currently being held. It has only been less than half a year since the start of 2017, but they have already performed energetically over 50 shows. Among them, the show included in this work is the “London show on May 19th, 2017”. This is the concert on the final day of “Europe #2” in their home country of the UK. The one who made this work is the “British master” who is familiar to us at our store. He is a recording journalist living in London who continues to report on the “now of the UK” through audience recordings, from super-big concerts to club gigs of connoisseur bands. Such a master is unique in that he balances the clarity and warmth of DAT recording. This work is also stamped with the personality of the master brand, but the “clearness” stands out more than ever. Of course, it also absorbs the sense of fantasy unique to Hackett, but the crisp musical tones are much more beautiful than a poor soundboard, and even each arpeggio of the acoustic guitar is vividly depicted. The most wonderful thing is the sound of the synth and guitar, and the majestic sound is so good that you think you’re listening to it on FM radio. The high notes sparkle and shine, the deep bass is super realistic even to the vibe, and it is a masterpiece recording that stands out even in the master collection. Now, the latest show depicted with such a sound is the biggest point. This time, the show is composed of two parts, the first part is the “solo edition” and the second part is the “GENESIS edition”. However, the contents are quite different from the previous tour “ACOLYTE TO WOLFLIGHT WITH GENESIS REVISITED”. First, the “Solo Edition”. Last time, it was a chronological structure of “WOLFLIGHT + early solo songs”, but this time it is not a conceptual flow, but a normal concert style. Instead, the range of selections has expanded at once, and not only the standard songs from the early solo days, but also “Rise Again” from 1999 and “Serpentine Song” from 2003 are featured. Of course, three songs from the latest work “THE NIGHT SIREN” are also performed: “El Nino”, “In The Skeleton Gallery”, and “Behind The Smoke”. It makes you feel the breadth of Hackett as a solo artist. And the second part “GENESIS Edition” is also fresh. The GENESIS reprint has been going on for a long time, and I thought that the repertoire had already run out, but there was still more. This “GENESIS edition” can be further divided into two parts, and “Part 2, first half” is a “WIND & WUTHERING” rush. Of course, “Your Own Special Way” is not performed, but 5 out of the 9 songs on the album are on a grand scale, and “One For The Vine” is the first solo release in 2017. The song order is also a digest of the album, and it can be said to be a “semi-reproduction” or “excerpt reproduction”. And “Part 2, second half” is a big hit with the major songs. Among such a rush of super famous songs, “Inside And Out” stands out. Of course, it is that song from the EP “SPOT THE PIGEON”, and this is also the number that was performed solo for the first time this year. This latest tour will show “Hackett-style prog” in a different style from the previous tour “ACOLYTE TO WOLFLIGHT WITH GENESIS REVISITED”. A masterpiece that depicts the whole picture with a special master sound. Unless an official live album is released, we can’t expect a better masterpiece. After “Oceania” in August, we will definitely have a performance in Japan… Such a live album with high expectations.
