In July 2017, Walter Becker passed away, and Donald Fagen was also in poor health, so his solo visit to Japan under the name of The Nightflyers was canceled, raising concerns about his future activities. However, Steely Dan recorded a complete show at the Sears Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, New York on October 17th as a digital audience recording. Naturally, the comeback live performance, which was absent from Becker, attracted a lot of attention, and the basic set structure was almost the same as the US tour in the spring of that year, starting with the instrumental “Fun It Janet”. After that, they performed their representative songs such as “Hey Nineteen”, “Aja”, and “Riki’s Phone Number”, as well as rare numbers that are rarely seen in live performances, such as Fagen’s solo hit “New Frontier” and “Book of Liars” written by their late friend Walter Becker, and presented a wonderful stage with the same perfect performance as always.
